Description This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA). The Augustana Campus/Faculty of the University of Alberta is seeking an Indigenous scholar for a tenure‑track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor for an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. This is an open disciplinary search, meaning any candidate from the sciences, social sciences, humanities, or fine arts is encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to scholars whose research program engages with Indigenous Nations and communities, and their wisdom, cultures, experiences or knowledge systems. In addition to teaching courses and conducting research in their academic discipline, the successful candidate will teach Indigenous Studies courses, such as Introduction to Indigenous Studies (AUIND 101) and Selected Topics in Indigenous Studies (AUIND 300). In accordance with the Braiding Past, Present, and Future plan ( sections 10 and 12, and in response to Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Augustana seeks to increase the number of Indigenous scholars within the Faculty while supporting them to build successful careers. Therefore, selection is limited to Indigenous Peoples of Canada who identify as First Nation, Métis, or Inuit. Candidates are encouraged to share how their connections to Indigenous communities inform their teaching, research, scholarly, and/or artistic activities. Location This role is in‑person. Work primarily takes place at the Augustana Campus in Camrose. Responsibilities Reporting to a Department Chair, the position will include the following responsibilities: Provide instruction in undergraduate courses in one or more of our undergraduate academic programs, including a mix of courses from their academic discipline and Indigenous studies courses. Design course syllabi, create course materials, evaluate student performance, prepare exams or evaluation tools and assign grades. Demonstrate scholarship and remain current in the discipline or profession by keeping class material relevant to the needs of students. Maintain an active research program or creative practice. We welcome complementary expertise in community‑engaged research. Provide service to the university and the community through committees, programs and initiatives that weave together the life of the Augustana campus with constituencies in the region and beyond. Qualifications A PhD, or equivalent, that is completed (or near completion) before the start date of this position. Evidence of effective teaching at the post‑secondary level. Evidence of an emerging program of academic research. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Evidence of citizenship, membership, or belonging in a First Nation, Inuit, or Métis community.
