Technology Specialist, Infrastructure Summer Student 2026 Location: Onsite at 31 Caroline Street N., Waterloo, ONEmployment Term: Full Time Contract from May 4, 2026 - August 21, 2026Position Reports To: Associate Director, Infrastructure and Support ServicesNumber of Vacancies: 1 The starting hourly rate for this position is between $21.50 and $24.00 per hour based on a 37.5 hour work week and commensurate with candidate experience and education. Perimeter’s compensation approach is designed to promote fairness and transparency, ensuring alignment with internal equity and external market benchmarks. Summer at Perimeter is busy and we need your help. We have summer student positions available throughout the Institute, running from May 4, 2026 to August 21, 2026. Relying on your exceptional client service experience, the Technology Specialist, Infrastructure Summer Student will provide support for scientific and administrative residents throughout the Institute. Supported by the Infrastructure and Support Services Team, this individual can expect to contribute their knowledge and skillset toward multiple projects connected to various Technology Services teams. They will ultimately help the Institute prepare for a conference filled summer and a busy launch to the new academic year. What you will do: Prioritize, monitor and triage technology requests to appropriate teams and personnel (Ticketing System) Provide technical support and training to end-users Troubleshoot hardware and software issues on end-user devices, printers, and other systems Create basic scripts to automate configuration, management, and monitoring of computer systems, applications, and services Test and implement technology standards on laptops and mobile devices Develop technical procedural & end-user KB documentation and maintain various Configuration Management Databases (CMDB) Assist the AV team with recordings, technical troubleshooting of AV issues. Targeted Projects: Support the migration of Perimeter’s intranet to SharePoint platform Build scripts for automation opportunities Implement early stages of MDM and build IT Asset Management to track endpoints and infrastructure gear IT Service Management (ITIL) next steps and Jira optimization Build out of IT Knowledgebase into SharePoint What you need to have: Current or graduating student in post secondary education (college or university) such as desktop support, information technology infrastructure or an Information Technology related field is preferred; however business administration students with a technology focus are also welcome to apply Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical scenarios to non-technical individuals Strong prioritization, organization and attention to detail Ability to multitask and problem solve Positive attitude, willingness to learn and a professional demeanor If we’re being greedy, we’d also like: Basic scripting experience and knowledge (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, etc.) Understanding of networking and information security in end-user devices and large infrastructures Ability to work under pressure with short deadlines in a rapidly changing and highly technical environment Please submit your resume by February 6, 2026 in order to ensure full consideration of your application.
