Esri Canada has an exceptional professional opportunity for a GIS Consultant, based in Halifax. As a GIS Consultant, you will leverage your knowledge and training to assist in the implementation of GIS based solutions based on Esri technology.


As a GIS Consultant you will contribute to the ongoing business operations of the Atlantic region by effectively providing technical knowledge and delivery of assigned consulting projects and other client services. The successful candidate will also provide ability in user needs analysis, design, development and implementation of client solutions.

GIS Consultant responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical expertise in development and implementation of the client solutions.
  • Ensure the smooth delivery of projects as specified in the project plan.
  • Monitor and control all technical activities throughout the complete life-cycle of the consulting assignment.
  • Assist with the building, testing, documentation, installation and training of customized applications integrated with Esri products.
  • Delivery of Quickstart services packages for core ArcGIS technology
  • Working with clients to assist them during the implementation process of software.
  • Work closely with project teams to manage client expectations and ensure project objectives are met.
  • Contributing to needs analysis, functional requirements definition, and business solution needs as required.
  • Contribute in the development of project plans for all assigned projects.
  • Assisting in the preparation of proposals (e.g. RFPs, RFIs and RFQs)
  • Proactively pursue self-instruction on all relevant technical topics.

Specific skill requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience with GIS applications.
  • Knowledge and experience working with or administering Esri products such as ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise.
  • Experience and aptitude for developing scripts using ArcGIS API for Python and ArcPy
  • Experience configuring ArcGIS Applications including, but not limited to, Web AppBuilder, FieldMaps for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Collector, ArcGIS Survey123 and ArcGIS Dashboards
  • Working knowledge of relational databases
  • University degree in geography, computer science, engineering or equivalent education and experience.

Considered as assets for this position are the following:

  • An aptitude / interest / understanding of IT component configuration (network, server, security)
  • Experience in training and educating customers using customized applications
  • Experience in client/server applications
  • Experience/aptitude for web development using JavaScript
  • Any of the following Esri Technical Certifications:
  • ArcGIS Desktop Professional
  • Enterprise Administration Professional
  • ArcGIS API for Python Specialty
  • Enterprise Geodatabase Management Professional

La personne retenue devra également mettre à profit ses aptitudes en analyse des besoins des utilisateurs, en conception, en développement et en mise en œuvre de solutions clients.

La conseillère ou le conseiller SIG devra mener à bien les tâches suivantes :

  • Fournir de l’expertise technique en matière de développement et de mise en œuvre de solutions destinées aux clients.
  • Assurer la réalisation sans heurts de projets selon la planification.
  • Surveiller et contrôler toutes les activités techniques tout le long du cycle de vie de la tâche de consultation.
  • Participer au développement, aux essais, à la documentation et à l’installation d’applications personnalisées reposant sur les produits d’Esri, et assurer la formation sur ces applications.
  • Fournir les services des forfaits QuickStart pour la technologie ArcGIS de base.
  • Travailler avec les clients afin de les assister à la mise en œuvre de logiciels.
  • Travailler en étroite collaboration avec les équipes de projet afin de répondre aux attentes des clients et d’atteindre les objectifs fixés.
  • Participer aux analyses des besoins, à la définition des exigences fonctionnelles et à la détermination des exigences de la solution d’affaires.
  • Participer à l’élaboration des plans des projets assignés.
  • Participer à la préparation de documents de vente (comme des réponses aux demandes de propositions, de renseignements et de prix).
  • Veiller de façon proactive à ménager des périodes d’autoapprentissage sur tous les sujets pertinents.

Formation, expérience et aptitudes nécessaires

  • Au moins trois ans d’expérience des applications SIG.
  • Connaissance et expérience de l’utilisation ou de l’administration des produits d’Esri tels qu’ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro et ArcGIS Enterprise.
  • Expérience et aptitude à développer des scripts utilisant ArcGIS API for Python et ArcPy.
  • Expérience de la configuration des applications ArcGIS, y compris, mais sans s’y limiter, Web AppBuilder, ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Collector, ArcGIS Survey123 et ArcGIS Dashboards.
  • Connaissance pratique des bases de données relationnelles.
  • Diplôme universitaire en géographie, en informatique, en ingénierie ou formation et expérience équivalentes.

Compétences considérées comme des atouts

  • Aptitude (ou intérêt ou compréhension) en configuration des composants informatiques (réseau, serveur, sécurité).
  • Expérience en matière de formation de clients relative à l’utilisation d’applications personnalisées.
  • Expérience en applications client-serveur.
  • Expérience ou aptitude en matière de développement web à l’aide de JavaScript.
  • L’une des certifications techniques Esri suivantes :

  • Administration d’Enterprise (professionnel)
  • Spécialité ArcGIS API for Python
  • Gestion de géodatabases d’entreprise (professionnel)
