The role is the primary review and quality-control layer over journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, IFRS 16 lease accounting, multi entity consolidations, board reporting, and external financial statements. The role exists to ensure that leadership can rely on timely, IFRS compliant financial information for decision
- making, external reporting, and audit, and to strengthen the internal control environment across the close cycle. It is a hands-on, fully on-site role at the corporate head office and provides day-to-day technical direction and review for the analysts supporting the close.
Key Responsibilities
1. Journal Entry & Balance Sheet Governance
* Perform operational review and sign-off for all monthly journal entries prepared by team members, ensuring proper supporting documentation, accurate GL account coding, and IFRS compliance.
* Perform initial review and approval of all balance sheet reconciliations across all corporate entities, ensuring variance items are identified, investigated, and cleared promptly.
* Maintain strict oversight of month-end cutoff procedures, routine accruals, prepaid expense schedules, intercompany eliminations, and payroll postings.2. Technical Accounting
* Manage, review, and maintain all corporate lease accounting schedules in strict compliance with IFRS 16, partnering with real estate, legal, and operational teams to maintain an up-to-date central repository of lease commitments and schedules.
* Prepare purchase price accounting for recent acquisitions and coordinate with internal and external advisors to support fair values for acquired assets.
* Lead the project planning and operational rollout for IFRS 18 adoption across the organization’s financial statement presentation and disclosure framework.
* Prepare complex accounting memos and analysis as required, including goodwill and long-lived asset impairment, asset retirement obligations, hedge accounting, and assets held for sale / discontinued operations assessments.
* Prepare standalone legal entity financial statements required for corporate tax filing purposes, investigating and resolving intercompany and statutory-to-IFRS discrepancies.3. Consolidations & Financial Reporting First Review
* Perform the first-line review of multi-entity consolidations and the cash flow statement, auditing intercompany eliminations, foreign currency translation adjustments, and trial balance integrity.
* Prepare financial statement note support and conduct the initial review of external financial statements prior to review by the Corporate Controller and Senior Director, Financial Reporting.
* Conduct the first-line review and initial compilation of the quarterly Board reporting package, including financial narratives and variance analysis against budget, prior year, and key performance metrics.4. Audit Coordination & Process Controls
* Act as a key operational contact for external auditors during quarterly and annual audits, coordinating audit schedules and reviewing requested workpapers.
* Continuously evaluate and improve internal accounting controls, workflow efficiency, and standard operating procedures across the close cycle.
* Oversee and act as administrator for company-wide tools used for financial reporting, lease tracking, billing, and balance sheet reconciliations.5. Team Support & Development
* Provide day-to-day technical direction, review feedback, and coaching to the senior financial analysts supporting the close, raising the first-pass quality of deliverables submitted for review.Success Criteria / Key Metrics:* Month-end and quarter-end close completed within the corporate close calendar, with all journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations rev
