JOB SUMMARYThe Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department is responsible for building a healthy, inclusive and vibrant City, as well as ensuring that communities, residents and visitors have access to the recreation and cultural places, programs, events and services that allow them to experience all the benefits the City has to offer, and overseeing Buildings and Facilities Management for improved service delivery integration, ensuring the best possible client experience in City facilities. You are responsible for coordinating and supervising the delivery of specified recreation programs and services offered through City of Ottawa Area Recreation Facilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCECompletion of 2-year community college diploma in Recreation or related field
Minimum of 3-years of full-time supervisory experience working in a recreation environment
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCESCurrent Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates Current National Lifeguard Pool certificate for specific positions Current Lifesaving Swim Instructor certificate for specific positions Current Oxygen Therapy or LSS Airway Management certificate for specific positions Current advanced Instructor/Trainer status is preferred in at least one Aquatic specialty area (Red Cross or NLS Instructor, First Aid and CPR Instructor, Examiner, Instructor/Trainer certificate) for specific positions Aquatic Supervisor Training preferred for specific positions Fitness Instructor certificate (e.g., canfitpro, YM-YWCA, Ontario Fitness Council or other recognized certification) for specific positions Specialty certification in a relevant recreation/sports program is an asset Current National Coaching Certification Level 1 Figure Skating and/or NCCP Introduction to Competition Part A or Level 1 Theory for specific positions KNOWLEDGE
- Working knowledge of computers and associated software
- Understanding union contracts and processes
- Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance
- Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures.
- For Aquatics positions, 3 years experience must be in a "Class A" Aquatic Facility
- For Fitness positions, teaching experience must include 300 hours in group fitness programs and 100 hours personal training and/or specialty group instruction

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing
- Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check (Level 2) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.
- Driver's License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver's license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated; This position requires the successful candidate to use their own transportation.
- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
