About the job
  • Lead wildlife research projects: Plan, organize, and carry out studies from design through data analysis to support science-based decisions.
  • Analyze complex data: Use advanced tools and methods to interpret ecological and disease data and ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Coordinate teams and partnerships: Work with researchers, Indigenous communities, and stakeholders to share information and achieve project goals.
  • Prepare reports and presentations: Communicate findings through technical reports, scientific publications, and presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Conduct field and lab work: Collect samples, operate specialized equipment, and follow safety protocols for wildlife disease testing.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
  • You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
  • You are/or are willing to be vaccinated against the rabies virus.
  • You are capable of working in a variety to terrain and adverse weather conditions.
Expertise in wildlife biology, disease ecology and research methods

You possess:

  • strong understanding of wildlife biology, ecology, conservation challenges, and disease ecology (including One Health concepts)
  • demonstrated ability to design and implement research projects using advanced quantitative methods and wildlife disease sampling techniques
Analytical and data management skills

You possess:

  • ability to review, analyze, and interpret large, complex ecological and wildlife disease datasets using advanced software and GIS tools
  • competence in ensuring data quality, integrity, and accurate reporting for scientific and management purposes
Communication and collaboration skills:

You possess:

  • ability to prepare technical reports, scientific publications, and deliver presentations to diverse audiences, including Indigenous communities and stakeholders.
  • effective interpersonal skills to foster collaboration with research teams, partners, and external organizations.
Project management and organizational skills:

You possess:

  • proven ability to plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate multiple research projects concurrently, including budgeting and timeline management
  • strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
Field and laboratory expertise:

You possess:

  • proficiency in wildlife sampling methods, specimen collection, and safe laboratory practices for diagnostic testing
  • knowledge of occupational health and safety standards and ability to follow safe operating procedures in field and lab settings
