Are you an aquatic biologist who has recently graduated? Are you keen to work on fisheries science pertaining to Smallmouth Bass and Largemouth Bass in Ontario rivers? If so, do not miss the opportunity to become part of this Ministry of Natural Resources' research team.
About the jobContribute to fisheries research and monitoring initiatives by reviewing published literature, working collaboratively with research biologists and scientists, conducting field work, managing data, performing statistical analyses, writing scientific reports and providing oral presentations to scientists, partners, and senior managers.
What you bring to the teamMandatory requirements
- Graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a degree, postgraduate certificate or diploma in the last four years.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Not currently an MNR intern or have not been an MNR intern in the past.
- Not a permanent OPS employee.
- You have demonstrated knowledge of aquatic ecology and fisheries science principles, and practices to assist in the delivery of research program data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- You have demonstrated knowledge of fisheries sampling and monitoring techniques, biology and ecology of Ontario sportfish, and approaches to summarize scientific literature and expert opinion.
- You have strong organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills to assist with the planning and successful implement of multiple projects, solve problems, and work with other staff and partners.
- You have the ability to communicate scientific information clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. You have analytical skills and experience working with ecological data, published literature and expert opinion; such as multivariate statistical analyses, data visualization, systematic literature reviews, meta-analysis, and collaborative research prioritization methods.
- You have demonstrated knowledge of statistical methods and tools to compile, manage and analyze large data sets (bibliographic and environmental); inventory, analyze and visualize trends in scientific/fisheries research; and elicit and aggregate expert opinion.
