Part-Time Financial Reviewer / Controller (CPA) – In-Office

Location: Vancouver, BC

Work Arrangement: In-office / on-site

Schedule: Approximately 1 day per week (8 hours)

Engagement Type: Contract / Part-time

Compensation: $65–$90 per hour (based on experience)

About the Role

We are seeking a senior, CPA-qualified Financial Reviewer / Controller to provide independent oversight of our accounting function and clear, weekly financial reporting to the CEO.

This is an in-office, on-site role focused on reviewing accounting work, assessing financial risk (including cash position and CRA balances), and evaluating the effectiveness of accounting systems and processes.

This role does not involve managing staff or enforcing changes. The focus is review, judgment, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review accounting records work for accuracy, completeness, and risk
  • Review cash position, payables, receivables, payroll timing, and CRA balances
  • Assess reconciliations and key accounting assumptions
  • Review how accounting and financial systems are being used
  • Identify system- or process-related risks, inefficiencies, or gaps

  • Distinguish between:

  • acceptable constraints

  • issues requiring attention

  • risks that can safely wait

  • Prepare a concise weekly, plain-language summary for the CEO

What This Role Is (and Is Not)

This role is:

  • Independent financial and accounting oversight
  • Review and assessment of accounting outputs
  • Calm, pragmatic interpretation of financial reality

This role is not:

  • A bookkeeping position
  • A staff management or enforcement role
  • A systems implementation or migration role
  • A CFO advisory or strategy role

Qualifications

Required

  • CPA designation (Canada)
  • 10–20+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience
  • Prior experience reviewing the work of accounting staff
  • Strong understanding of accounting systems, controls, and reconciliations
  • Comfort assessing cash flow timing and CRA exposure
  • Clear, non-judgmental communication style

Preferred

  • Controller, Senior Financial Manager, or Director of Finance background
  • Experience in small to mid-sized organizations
  • Prior contract or part-time oversight roles

Work Arrangement

  • In-office / on-site role in Vancouver
  • Approximately one full day per week (8 hours)
  • No remote or hybrid option
