Shipping Supervisor

Mission of the Role (What you'll be doing):
As a Shipping Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Shipping department by shipping products, warehousing organization, and distribution services, supervising staff, planning truck delivery routes, and enforcing Health and Safety practices and procedures to meet company standards and legislated requirements.
Key Duties & Accountabilities (Primary responsibilities & quantifiable measurement):
- Supervise day-to-day activities within a busy warehouse environment.
- Shipping Supervisor has supervisory responsibilities to lead hourly Warehouse and Delivery employees.
- Organize warehouse, label goods before shipping, plan shipping routes and process shipments in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean and safe Warehouse environment.
- Coordinate daily shipping requirements.
- Supervise Shipping, distribution and storage of supplies and materials.
- Ensure enough equipment is available for the operation, ensure the operation has enough drivers to deliver all orders as requested by customers.
- Able to find quick resolutions to any issue that would negatively impact deliveries or the general operation of the Warehouse.
- Manage and resolve any issues and complaints from the customer and work with customer service department to resolve it, as well as work with different departments to fulfill customer needs as well as business needs.
- Manage Production Work orders by giving them to the FL operators to pick in timely manner and communicate with production team if there is any shortage or missing item.
- Ensure effective and ongoing communication with Sales & Customer Service regarding any Finished Good / Raw material items in a "tight" inventory supply status.
- Train new and existing employees.
- Exemplify the Company's dedication to customer service.
- Direct responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Executing leadership projects
- Managing the reorganizing of the Warehouse with other supervisors
- Manage warehouse inventory along with other supervisors.
- Managing the shipping and distribution networks according to customer needs and business strategies and work closely with carriers.
- Managing correct labelling of items, skids and ensure all shipments are properly handled and processed.
- Drive Forklift on daily basis as needed.
- Improve efficiency in the Warehouse by reducing pick times, reviewing processes, and identifying gaps as opportunities for improvement.
- Dispatching deliveries and help to coordinate and optimize delivery schedules.
- Supporting inventory control when required
- Responsible for all shipping staff, which includes determining training needs, conducting performance reviews, participation in the recruiting of new staff, completing all necessary reporting for health and safety and WSIB issues, and resolving employee concerns
- Ensure the Company's Health and Safety and Operational efficiencies are met and ensuring proper safety PPE and procedures are carried out by all employees.
- Continuously look for opportunities to improve the operation to reduce cost while maintaining an excellent level of service.
- Direct employee training to improve effectiveness and ensure conformance with H&S policies and procedures. Ensure the required H&S safety procedures are followed. Communicate clearly and directly with employees concerning performance expectations, productivity, and accountability.
- Ensure all equipment inspections/checklists are completed daily.
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications (What you'll need to be successful):
- A post-secondary education
- A minimum of 2 - 4 years of warehouse leadership experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- The ability to make sound decisions in a timely fashion.
- Proven leadership ability to effectively manage the team of direct reports
- Above average communication and interpersonal skills
- A professional, courteous, and welcoming manner – both in person and on the telephone
- Proficiency in MS Office programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, Ministry of Transportation and WSIB regulations would be an asset
- Strong leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities are essential
- Ability to present themselves in a professional manner
- Must be able to fill out bills of lading and be familiar with various forms that are used and required by the major freight carriers.
- Experienced and Licensed Counterbalance / Reach truck Operator - required.
