DUTIES

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Student Mental Wellness & Recovery Practitioner provides a broad range of mental health services

through the provision of direct clinical services, consultation services and professional and public education to the UCN community. The

Student Mental Wellness & Recovery Practitioner strives to make mental health an institutional priority by promoting mental well-being and

enhancing services available to students.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor of Social Work or Registered Psychiatric Nurse; a directly related equivalent combination of education and experience

may be considered

  • Several years' experience providing mental health services including case management, crisis counselling, short-term counselling

and wellness planning

  • Experience providing mental health services relating to the intergenerational effects of residential schools and colonialism
  • Knowledge of various counselling modalities
  • Knowledge of crisis response best practices
  • Strong knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to relate to students, staff and faculty in ways that builds confidence and trust in supporting and enhancing student well-being
  • Ability to provide services that are responsive and suitable to the needs of specific student populations including those who identify

as Indigenous, racialized and/or persons of a minority sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

  • Effective and culturally relevant communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to use information technology effectively
  • Commitment to life-long learning

ASSETS

• Masters of Social Work

  • Ability to speak an indigenous language
  • Previous experience working in a post-secondary environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Valid Class 5 Drivers License with the ability to travel throughout the year

  • An active membership with the Manitoba College of Social Workers or active Certificate of Practice from the College of Registered

Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba in good standing

  • Completion of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) within 6 months of hire
  • Completion of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certificate within 6 months of hire
  • Candidates must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry and Adult Abuse Registry
