BCforward is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Kafka Admin to join our dynamic team based in Mississauga, ON.

Job Title: Kafka Admin

Expected Duration: 6 Months

Location: Mississauga, ON

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Kafka Messaging Infrastructure Lead / Kafka Administrator to support and enhance enterprise-scale messaging platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Confluent Kafka, large-scale cluster management, and event-driven architecture components. This role involves working closely with cross-functional technology teams to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing data streaming services across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize Confluent Kafka clusters, including brokers, Zookeeper, Schema Registry, Connect, and Control Center.
  • Perform installation, upgrades, configuration, scaling, and ongoing platform maintenance.
  • Collaborate with engineering, development, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless Kafka integration across applications.
  • Identify and resolve system issues, analyze messaging performance, and recommend improvements.
  • Document system procedures, configuration standards, and best practices.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical leadership to supporting teams.
  • Ensure platform reliability, security, risk management, and adherence to compliance standards.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 6+ years of relevant IT experience, with strong Kafka / Confluent administration background.
  • Hands-on experience with Confluent Platform components (Kafka Brokers, Connect, Schema Registry, Control Center, Replicator, Security Plugins).
  • Experience in event-driven architecture and high-availability, multi-node cluster environments.
  • Strong understanding of performance tuning, troubleshooting, monitoring, and capacity planning.
  • Experience with Ansible or other automation/scripting tools.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience guiding or mentoring junior team members.
  • Background in platform upgrades, enterprise-scale migrations, or Kafka modernization initiatives.
  • Knowledge of standard industry practices, governance, and compliance.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (Master's preferred).
