Warming Centre Supervisor

Job Summary: Directly reporting to the Outreach Manager, the Warming Centre Supervisor will provide day-to-day oversight, leadership and supervision to the Lighthouse warming centre employees who provide individualized support to people accessing the warming centre. The Warming Centre Supervisor will also provide case management, focusing on participant engagement and safety, while meeting administrative, reporting and data requirements, and fostering community partner relations. This is a seasonal position.

Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Lead, supervise, and provide support for all direct reports.
- Ensure team meetings are being conducted following the Meeting Plan.
- Conduct regularly scheduled (bi-weekly) 1:1's with direct reports.
- Ensure all direct reports are up to date with all training requirements, understand their responsibilities and know the policies and procedures.
- Developing and ensuring all training is completed and up to date.
- Ensure that all direct reports are maintaining professionalism and completing daily functions as required by the organization.
- Demonstrate safe work practices and follow all health and safety measures.
Supervision
- Ensure that onboarding/orientation/training of new direct reports is completed and tracked for each new team member, in conjunction with the HSD.
- Complete hiring, coaching and professional development for direct reports.
- Conduct probationary and performance evaluations for direct reports.
- Create and manage staff schedules and relief lists, using the Payworks program.
- Participate in on-call responsibilities as required.
- Implement the housing-focused shelter standards and ensure all staff are trained on this and using the diversion program.
- Respond according to program protocols to emergencies or crises.
Case Management
- Practice strong cohesive diversion techniques on an ongoing basis.
- Coordinate access to the warming centre as required.
- Use case management as a tool to support participants in identifying their unique housing barriers, set goals to achieve, change and secure housing in conjunction with Community Partner teams.
- Support the Warming Centre Supervisor to encourage shelter participants in reaching housing and related goals and ensure accountability to housing expectations in order to maintain emergency shelter use.
Participant Engagement and Safety
- Maintain an emotionally, mentally and physically safe environment for the participants.
- Assist participants in building positive relationships that are healthy and supportive, while presenting oneself in a professional manner.
- Establish and maintain professional boundaries with participants.
- Safely resolve crisis situations and respond nonjudgmentally to participants.
- Keep all areas clean and safe from potential hazards.
Administrative, Reporting and Data Requirements
- Input required data as needed.
- Complete accurate, professional, factual and non-judgmental incident reports, participant records and case management notes.
- Perform assessments using the Prioritization Custom Table in HIFIS to further assess needs and appropriate program advocacy.
- Provide administrative support phone and email as needed.
- Take part in internal department collaboration.
- Report potential hazards to supervisors and resolve safety issues immediately if possible.
Community Partners Relations
- Maintain existing community partnerships that support housing and other areas to meet the needs of the participants.
- Assist participants to connect to appropriate community resources for aftercare to maintain housing and act as an entry point for reengaging aftercare supports as needed.
- Help make appointments with community partners, such as the Clinic.
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Ensure direct reports participate in cleaning, janitorial, and basic housekeeping as needed to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Assists with meal service and clean up as required.
- Clean all common areas each shift and as needed including sweeping and mopping.
- Clean and sanitize all high touch surfaces each shift and as needed.
- Clean staff bathrooms each shift and as needed.
- Ensure donations are put in the appropriate spaces as required.
- Put out garbage, recycling and green waste as required.
- Record and report any maintenance issues promptly.
Reporting
- Provide information for the weekly Monday Message.
- Using the organizational approved reporting system including HIFIS, ensure all data is collected promptly and precisely.
- Ensure payroll is completed for direct reports and assist other team members with payroll ensuring that approval is done within the deadline.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- College diploma or University degree in business management, human resources or social work, or equivalent.
- 2 years experience in shelter and/or housing leadership and supervision.
- Experience in coaching and developing a diverse team of employees.
- Experience in developing and managing schedules.
- Experience with database work and data collection.
- Computer skills, including Google Drive and HIFIS.
- High standard of integrity, judgement and confidentiality.
- Excellent communication, supervisory and community relationship skills.
- Excellent customer service, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Able to focus on staff needs while developing teamwork, ensuring staff are supporting participants, and making sound decisions.
- Flexible and adaptable with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and First Aid/CPR are required during employment.
- Clean criminal record check, including vulnerable sector screening.
- Reliable transportation.
- Must be flexible in terms of hours worked.
This role is a contract position until the end of April 2025.
