**About The Sharing Place Food Centre**:The Sharing Place Food Centre is a community-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping Orillia area residents living with food insecurity. We provide a diverse set of programs that strive to create a healthy community through access to nutritious food. This includes Meals-4-Change, an innovative program that produces healthy, ready-to-eat meals utilizing the food we recover. The program allows us to produce meals at a fraction of the cost of store-bought meals, which are distributed throughout the community at no cost. With the recent opening of our new Sharing Place commercial kitchen, we will increase the number of meals produced from 2000 a month to 4000 a month. **Job purpose**: The purpose of the Meals-4-Change Program Assistant is to work in The Sharing Place Commercial Kitchen with the Meals-4-Change team to plan, produce and distribute healthy, ready-to-eat meals for those in the community who experience food insecurity, document the outcomes of the program, and support the Supervisor, Programs Coordinator in their roles and responsibilities.

**Meals-4-Change Program Assistant Duties and responsibilities**
- Develop recipes based on the surplus food available in the centre.
- Plan food preparation sessions based on menus for the coming week/s.
- Ensuring a sanitary environment that meets local health and safety practices.
- _Safe Food Handling eLearning Course will be provided_
- Sourcing ingredients from the warehouse and through purchasing.
- Using your food preparation and knife skills, prepare mass produced meals that are of the best quality.
- Maintain a database of recipes, meals produced, and meals distributed.
- Assist with maintaining communication and positive relationships with local social service agencies to ensure that they are aware of the agency’s available meals to be shared.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of volunteer information, availability, and skills.
- Assist with volunteer scheduling.

**Qualifications**
- As this is a Canada Summer Jobs position, applicants must be between the ages of 15 - 30
- Culinary Skills student preferred. Equivalent student/work experience and career goals will be considered.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs. repeatedly, bend, stretch, and stand for extended periods.
- Agility to handle knives and other cooking implements properly for cutting, chopping, and dicing.
- Team player.
- Organized and detail oriented.
- Comfortable navigating computer software.
- Clean Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

**Job Details**

**Hours of work**: Your schedule is a four-day work week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday from 9:00 AM -to
- 4:30 PM, for a total of 30 hours per week.

**Wage**:$17.50/hr.

**NOTE**: Position pending Canada Summer Jobs funding

**Salary**: $17.50 per hour
