Overview

Root River Logging is seeking a skilled and dedicated permanent Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. This is a field based position and camp stay and overtime hours may be required. The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified and certified heavy equipment mechanic whose key role will be to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy logging equipment such as chippers, feller bunchers, processors, and grapple skidders. The heavy equipment mechanic will perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot malfunctions, and ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently, working on components like engines, transmissions, and hydraulics. This role is essential for maintaining forestry harvesting and processing workflow. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will work closely with various tools, equipment, and other equipment operators, and will contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our forestry operations.

Duties

  • Carry out heavy equipment mechanical services to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy logging equipment such as chippers, feller bunchers, processors, and grapple skidders at active logging operations.
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot malfunctions, and ensure heavy equipment is operating safely and efficiently, working on components like engines, transmissions, and hydraulics at logging sites.
  • Order and acquire required heavy equipment parts for heavy equipment requiring repairs.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal and safe performance.
  • Collaborate with Root River Logging equipment operators to execute project plans effectively and safely.
  • Maintain basic documentation and organization skills to effectively document diagnosis, repairs, troubleshooting, and maintenance on heavy equipment.
  • Follow safety protocols at all times to ensure a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Strongly prefer and geared towards a fully ticketed and Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic with experience in Canadian logging operations preferably.
  • Highly developed heavy equipment diagnostic, repair, and maintenance skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Basic documentation and organization skills to effectively document diagnosis, repairs, troubleshooting, and maintenance on heavy equipment.
  • Must be able to work in a camp environment with flexibility in shift work.
  • Willingness to travel and work in an outdoor environment in remote locations.
  • Able to work cooperatively in a team, but also independently with little supervision.
  • Physically fit to endure the rigors of full-time fieldwork in all conditions.
  • Safe work mindset is required.
  • Accountable and dependable.
