Job DescriptionAbout the Opportunity
We're seeking a Planner / Engagement Specialist to join our growing Vancouver Studio, an energetic and collaborative team working on some of the most dynamic planning and engagement projects in Canada. This opportunity is ideal for someone who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment and is motivated by the impact that thoughtful planning and meaningful engagement can have on communities.
You'll contribute to a wide range of projects, from land development and community planning to policy initiatives and regional growth studies. Working alongside senior practitioners across B&A and CIMA+, you'll play a key role in both the technical and relational aspects of planning by helping shape how we communicate ideas, gather input, and bring people together around shared visions for the future.
You'll have the opportunity to participate in our hybrid work model, offering flexible work hours and a combination of remote work and in-office collaboration at our Vancouver location.
What You'll Do
As a Planner / Engagement Specialist, you'll play a key role in shaping the next phase of B&A's Vancouver studio. Working closely with our interdisciplinary teams and clients, you'll:
- Lead and support a diverse range of projects including land use planning, policy development, community planning, and engagement strategy.
- Coordinate and deliver public and stakeholder engagement activities such as workshops, open houses, focus groups, surveys, and online engagement campaigns, ensuring inclusive and meaningful participation.
- Prepare and contribute to planning documents, bylaws, policies, and land use frameworks, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with client objectives.
- Conduct and interpret planning research, policy analysis, demographic data, and market trends to inform planning recommendations.
- Help develop clear, visually compelling materials such as reports, presentations, and graphics that communicate ideas effectively to a range of audiences.
- Present findings and recommendations to clients, Councils, Committees, and community groups in both written and verbal formats.
- Collaborate within interdisciplinary project teams that include planners, designers, engineers, and engagement specialists to deliver integrated, high-quality work.
- Contribute to the continued growth of our Vancouver studio by supporting business development initiatives, proposal writing, and client relationships as your career progresses.
What You Bring
- A degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, Environmental Design, Economics or a related field.
- 3+ years of professional experience in planning, ideally within a consulting or multidisciplinary environment.
- Demonstrated experience designing, coordinating, and facilitating engagement activities. Candidates with IAP2 training or certification are preferred.
- A solid understanding of planning legislation, policy development, and municipal approval processes in British Columbia.
- Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging materials for diverse audiences.
- Experience with socio-demographic and economic analysis, research practices, and forecasting methods is an asset.
- Proven project coordination and client communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, and deliverables.
- Experience with GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, or other visualization and mapping tools is considered an asset.
- A desire to contribute to the continued growth of B&A's planning and engagement presence in British Columbia.
The expected salary for this position is between $67,440 - $92,730 and based on the richness and diversity of the candidate's experience, training, skills and internal equity. The position or associated salary could vary depending on the profile of the candidate.
Who You Are
- A collaborative team player who values open communication and shared success.
- Curious, adaptable, and solutions-oriented with a natural ability to connect ideas across disciplines.
- Confident engaging with clients, stakeholders, and community members, and comfortable facilitating discussions in both public and virtual settings.
- Detail-oriented yet able to see the big picture, balancing strategic insight with technical execution.
- Passionate about city-building, community development, and the role of engagement in creating meaningful outcomes.
- Proactive and self-motivated with an interest in professional growth, mentorship, and contributing to a supportive studio culture.
