The position reports to the National Health and Safety Director. The H&S Coordinator will be responsible for administering health and safety policies and procedures, training and advice regarding health and safety issues, legislation and occupational policy. Overall, you will assist in the maintenance of occupational health and safety prevention initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates and champions health and safety activities and training
  • Reviews and analyzes functional safety activities and programs to determine training requirements for safety; Prepares a training matrix and schedule to ensure mandatory training needs meet legislative compliance
  • Coordinates incident investigations and provides effective follow-up for corrective actions
  • Promotes a proactive safety strategy and ensures worker safety and cost containment for all claims
  • Assists in managing WCB disability claims and modified return to work programs
  • Ensures adherence to regulated and documented safety standards, including conducting monthly inspections, hazard analysis, and periodic audits as well as identifying and assigning corrective actions for workplace hazards noted during property inspections
  • Monitors and evaluates occupational health and safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable provincial regulations
  • Coordinates meetings and assists with Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)
  • Produces weekly and monthly reporting
Qualifications
  • Enrolled in or completed OH&S certificate program; post-secondary education in business, human resources or related field are considered assets
  • Minimum of 1 year related experience
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Solid computer skills including MS Office
  • Knowledge of applicable OH&S and WCB policy
  • Motivated, well organized, and able to make sound decisions
  • Strong customer focus, results oriented, and able to work with multiple conflicting priorities and timelines
