About the Role
We are a
healthcare-focused recruitment team
actively identifying strong
Nurse Practitioner (RN – Extended Class)
candidates for
community-based primary care organizations in the Ottawa region
.
For one of these opportunities, we are identifying candidates for a
full-time, permanent NP role
in an
outpatient primary care clinic
within commuting distance of the
Greater Ottawa Metropolitan Area.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides
comprehensive primary health care services
in a
Family Health Team
environment. The NP works with a
multidisciplinary team
to
assess, diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions and diseases
, and practices
autonomously to the full scope
as defined by the
College of Nurses of Ontario
.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide
primary care
within the scope of practice of a Nurse Practitioner, in accordance with
College of Nurses of Ontario
standards. - Provide care to
individuals of all ages across the lifespan
, with a focus on
health promotion and disease prevention
. - Collaborate with physicians
to ensure appropriate provision of primary care for issues outside the NP scope of practice. - Support
patients and families
to take increased responsibility for their health through
risk factor assessment, goal setting and health promotion
. - Order diagnostic tests and procedures
within the NP scope of practice, and/or in consultation with family physicians or in accordance with
medical directives
. - Refer patients, as appropriate, to
comprehensive health programs
within the Family Health Team and to
community partners
. - Participate in the
development, planning and evaluation
of treatment, education, counselling and health promotion activities with other
interdisciplinary health providers
. - Collect data
as required for statistical and reporting purposes. - Observe, collect and record
patient data in an
Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
. - Maintain
confidentiality
of team, personnel and patient information. - Facilitate in-services and external education sessions
as appropriate.
Professional Development
- Maintain and develop
professional competence
through
ongoing professional development
. - Participate fully in the
"Practice Reflection"
process of the
College of Nurses of Ontario
. - Remain current and aware of opportunities to implement
new, evidence-based methods
of patient assessment and treatment. - Engage in
self-directed learning
(e.g., conferences, e-learning, journal reviews). - Participate in
interdisciplinary committees
to promote professional and interpersonal development. - Participate in
clinical projects/studies
and
interdisciplinary meetings
as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Baccalaureate or Masters in Nursing.
- Successful completion of a
post-graduate Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program
. - Current extended class registration
with the
College of Nurses of Ontario
. - Basic CPR
certification. - Demonstrated experience
in a
Community and/or Primary Care setting
.
Skills
- Knowledge and understanding of the
Canadian and Ontario healthcare systems
. - Knowledge of the
Nurse Practitioner role within an interdisciplinary team
. - Ability to
communicate effectively
with patients, families, peers and other health care professionals. - Ability to
share information and teach
in the context of patient care. - Proficiency in
current evidence-based methods and practices of primary care delivery
. - Excellent organization, research, evaluation, time management, communication and interpersonal skills
. - Proficiency with
computer hardware and software
, including
EMR use
. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills
.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Minimal physical effort; the workday consists of approximately
equal amounts of standing and sitting
. - Routine exposure to persons with
contagious or infectious illnesses
, requiring strict adherence to
infection control procedures
. - Possible exposure to
highly emotional or violent patients
, and to situations involving
upsetting diagnoses
or
terminal illness
. - Strong
critical thinking and deductive reasoning
skills are essential. - Frequent
competing priorities
, requiring the ability to
prioritize and balance multiple tasks and responsibilities
.

- Practice within the NP scope and in accordance with the
standards of practice
set out by the
College of Nurses of Ontario
, including the
"Practice Standard – Nurse Practitioner (2021)"
