ABOUT THE ROLE

Garden River First Nation (GRFN) is seeking a Team Lead, Lands & Estates, to oversee all land registry activities, land allotments, and estate matters while guiding staff and ensuring compliance with applicable by-laws and legislation. This leadership position supports the implementation of the Land Code, Land Claims, and Additions to Reserve, while promoting effective land management practices aligned with GRFN's vision and strategic priorities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Ø Lead and coordinate land and estate-related projects and files.

Ø Supervise Lands staff and ensure consistent compliance with GRFN policies.

Ø Support land transactions, permits, and estate administration processes.

Ø Manage project risks, budgets, and community engagement activities.

Ø Develop and implement departmental safety and emergency plans.

Ø Oversee Land Code and Land Claim initiatives in collaboration with the Manager.

Ø Ensure all legal land transactions are accurately recorded and registered.

Ø Conduct detailed reporting, analysis, and recommendations to management.

Ø Represent GRFN professionally at meetings, consultations, and community events.

Ø Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental objectives.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Ø Diploma in Business Administration, Political Science, History, Philosophy, or related field (required).

Ø Minimum 2 years' experience in Lands Management, Governance, or Policy Development.

Ø Proven leadership experience in team supervision and project coordination.

Ø Knowledge of Land Code, Land Claim processes, and Indian Lands Registry.

Ø Familiarity with environmental and regulatory frameworks.

Ø Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ø Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Ø Valid Class G driver's license and ability to travel.

Ø Knowledge and understanding of First Nation culture, values, and traditions.

Ø Must undergo a criminal record check and driver's abstract before employment. (At applicant's Expense).
