As the Youth Sexual Exploitation System Navigator, you will review all instances of child sexual exploitation under the age of 18. You will be required to build relationships with youth at risk of or experiencing sexual exploitation and partner with agencies addressing sexual exploitation. Primary duties include:
- Review all instances of sexual exploitation, and work with the intake/investigative coordinators and the assigned detectives of Child Abuse to assist them in their investigation.
- Build connections with sexual exploitation agencies and youth, providing a positive experience with the police.
- Collaborate with the Calgary Police Service (CPS) Indigenous Navigator/Liaison of the Missing Person's Unit and the ALERT Human Trafficking System Navigator addressing indigenous youth engaged in sexual exploitation and prevent trafficking.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to the Child Abuse Unit and CPS on sexual exploitation, biases in investigating these crimes, and relevant legislation.
- Engage with social programs and resources to prevent ongoing exploitation of youth and support the transition out of exploitation.
Working Conditions: Exposed to emotionally disturbing events such as violence, serious injury, abuse, and death.
Qualifications
- A degree in Social Work, Social Sciences or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of related experience working with social agencies dedicated to youth, working with sexually exploited youth or having lived experience with exploitation, and working with investigations involving children at risk of or experiencing abuse.
- Registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) or similar registration is required.
- Strong knowledge of legislation meant to address child sexual exploitation, such as the Protection of Sexually Exploited Children Act (PSECA) is also required.
- Previous experience working with law enforcement/criminal justice agencies will also be considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires emotional intelligence; creating and sustaining safe, respectful and inclusive workplaces; promoting supportive, balanced and professional accountability; building and maintaining relationships; developing self and others; striving for results.
Pre-employment Requirements
- An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.
