Controller – Comox Valley, BC

Vista Radio is looking for an experienced Controller to join our Finance team and play a key leadership role in supporting our growing national operations.

Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & General Accounting
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting.
- Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage general ledger functions, journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal financial policies.
- Develop, update, and enforce financial policies and procedures that support internal controls, operational efficiency, and remote workflows.
Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable & Team Oversight
- Lead and supervise AP, AR, and general accounting team members across multiple locations.
- Oversee workflow management, daily issue resolution, training, and performance support.
- Establish priorities, allocate tasks, and maintain high-quality standards.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and solutions-focused culture across remote environments.
Reconciliation, Analysis & Cash Management
- Oversee bank reconciliations, electronic banking uploads, and cash management procedures.
- Monitor cash flow and support forecasting activities.
- Conduct variance analysis and provide insights that support operational decision-making.
Budgeting & Planning
- Work closely with the Director of Finance to coordinate annual budgeting and periodic forecasting cycles.
- Provide analysis and guidance to internal stakeholders on budget performance and financial trends.
Regulatory & External Reporting
- Prepare and support regulatory and industry reporting requirements, including CRTC filings.
- Coordinate with external auditors and support year-end audit activities.
Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and automate workflows.
- Collaborate across departments to improve information flow, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA designation preferred; candidates actively pursuing CPA will be considered.
- 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or team-lead responsibility.
- Experience managing remote or multi-location teams is an asset.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience is an asset.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong general technology capability.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.
