Assistant Controller

Position Summary

The Assistant Controller is a key member of Entreflow's Finance and Accounting team, supporting the Controller in managing financial operations across multiple client accounts.
This position represents a professional development opportunity for team members who have demonstrated strong accounting, analytical, and leadership skills and are ready to advance from a Senior Accountant role into broader financial management responsibilities.

The Assistant Controller is responsible for ensuring accurate, consistent, and timely month-end reporting, optimising accounting processes, and delivering high-quality financial insights. The role works closely with the Senior Accounting Technicians, Accounting Technicians and Controllers to provide strategic financial support, enhance operational efficiency, and maintain Entreflow's standards of excellence in client service and data accuracy.

Key Responsibilities
Client Financial Management
  • Oversee daily and monthly accounting operations for assigned clients, ensuring accurate and timely bookkeeping and financial reporting.
  • Support Controller with financial analysis, interpretation of results, and recommendations that inform client decision-making and business strategy.
  • Prepare, review, and analyse monthly financial statements and reports in advance of client Financial Management meetings.
  • Present financial results and performance insights to clients alongside the Controller, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor client budgets, forecasts, and KPIs to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Coordinate the completion of sales tax filings and collaborate with external tax specialists to ensure efficient year-end processes.
  • Manage and maintain third-party reporting obligations (e.g., to lenders, investors, or regulatory bodies) as required.

Operational Excellence
  • Ensure consistent application of Entreflow's accounting standards, internal controls, and operational policies.
  • Perform monthly file reviews to verify accuracy, identify risks, and highlight opportunities for improvement or standardisation.
  • Lead the optimisation and automation of client accounting files to improve workflow efficiency and data integrity.
  • Support seamless onboarding of new clients, establishing proper bookkeeping structures and integrating them into Entreflow's systems and processes.
  • Provide technical accounting support, troubleshooting, and guidance to team members as required.
  • Champion implementation and best practices use of new technology and new features within existing applications to ensure they are being used effectively.

Leadership & Development
  • Serve as a key liaison between the CFO's, bookkeeping team and the Controller group to ensure information accuracy and alignment of deliverables.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and feedback to junior accounting team members to promote professional growth and maintain high-quality output.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes, templates, and reporting tools.
  • Actively participate in internal initiatives to advance standardisation, efficiency, and client satisfaction.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience in cloud bookkeeping, accounting, or controllership roles.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CPA designation (or active pursuit) is a requirement
  • Proven experience managing multiple clients, month-end close processes, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/GAAP), financial controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and automation tools (QuickBooks Online, Dext, Plooto, etc.) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and train peers on how to use these efficiently in the workplace to maximise efficiency.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to explain financial concepts clearly to non-financial stakeholders e.g. clients and team members.
