Posting: Social Recreation Program Coordinator
Job Type: Part-time, permanent – 28 hours/week
Job Description: Reporting to the Manager of Programs and Services, the Social Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and facilitation of social recreation programs. They will be responsible to coordinate and implement a variety of social recreation programs using a hybrid model of program delivery to promote overall wellness and social skill building.
Qualifications:
- Completed post-secondary education in community recreation or Therapeutic Recreation studies or related studies within the social services field
- Minimum 2 years' experience working with older adults preferably those living with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias, care partners, and those with complex co-existing health conditions
- Certified as a Senior Fitness Instructor through the Canadian Centre for Aging and Activity. Must be willing to obtain if not already certified
- Knowledge of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, spanning from early to late stage of disease progression; including the ability to manage and effectively resolve conflicts which may include the presence of verbal and physical behaviours
- Familiarity with and commitment to a person-centered approach to service delivery
- Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills, including the ability to multi-task
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Flexibility in adapting to changing priorities within program planning and delivery
- Flexibility in adapting to changing priorities e.g., to represent the Society at events and programs which occur outside of regular work hours
- Ability to work independently and as a cooperative team member
- Valid First Aid and CPR
- Valid driver's license and vehicle essential
- Vulnerable Sector Police Screening
Responsibilities:
- Develop programs designed to engage clients for the purpose of social recreation
- Execute and deliver Minds in Motion program, including maintaining relevant program assessments, data and evaluation information, and community connections as part of the program requirements
- Responsible for development and maintaining of the Activity kit program including inventory lists
- Delivery of a variety of regular programs that meet various needs of clients across the dementia spectrum. Including ongoing weekly/monthly programs, and one time activity-based programs both in person and in virtual format
- Facilitate social networking and relationship building amongst participants
- Facilitate connections and linkages with other community partners and service providers as needed
- Collection of attendance, evaluation data or other data requirements as specified to support the program and achievement outcomes utilizing Client Management Database as applicable
- Submit monthly reports and quarterly statistics as applicable
Evaluation & Other Responsibilities:
- Always represent the Alzheimer Society Huron Perth in a professional manner, treating all internal and external clients with respect and dignity
- Always act in the best interests of the Society
- Maintain an organized and productive office environment
- Take on other related job duties as requested by the Executive Director and/or Manager of Programs and Services
- Record client updates and relevant information in the Client Management Database and link with First Link Family Support Counsellor as needed to support client's needs
- Provide reports and updates to the Manager of Programs and Services.
- Work closely with the Manager of Programs and Services to continually evaluate program participants by soliciting ongoing feedback and evaluation from program clients

- Annual performance review with the Manager of Programs and Services
Working Conditions:
- Work schedule regular with flexibility
- Frequent interaction and collaboration with clinical staff
- General office duties, typing, and filing
- Frequent walking, standing, exercising and activities related to physical wellness
- Travel required using own vehicle
- Occasional lifting/carrying 25 lbs., reaching, bending, walking. Freedom of movement throughout the day
