Role Responsibilities

The Senior Inventory Specialist, Team Lead provides technical leadership and subject matter expertise to ensure the accuracy, integrity and integration of the Alberta Government's real property inventory, with a primary focus on Infrastructure-owned assets. The role is accountable for optimizing asset systems participating in modernization initiatives, leading technical projects, and supervising a team to maintain high standards of data quality and operational efficiency.

The primary responsibilities for the Senior Inventory Specialist, Team Lead include, but are not limited to:

  1. Inventory Data Integrity and Governance - Provide technical leadership in establishing and maintaining strong inventory data. Ensure that asset information is accurate, consistent, complete, and reliable throughout the asset lifecycle.

  2. Project Management - Lead complex, cross‑ministry projects involving multi‑stage processes, large‑scale inventory updates, financial and space‑related reporting cycles. Ensure timely delivery of complex reports, resolve technical and operational challenges, and support audit processes.

  3. Inventory System Enhancement – Serve as the subject matter expert for inventory systems, overseeing the operation of the systems such as BLIMS and FAMIS, which manage provincial land and building inventory, asset attributes, lifecycle data, and spatial information. Ensure effective integration with more than 20 related platforms. Act as a key contributor for platform replacement initiatives by participating in requirements discussions, preparing and validating data, supporting testing, and guiding transition and implementation activities.

  4. Data Integration and Reporting - Transform complex inventory data into clear, accurate, actionable reports that support strategic asset planning and decision making.

  5. Technical Support and Training - Provide guidance on system use, workflow processes, troubleshooting, and problem resolution to system users. Develop training materials and lead onboarding to strengthen system proficiency and ensure consistent usage.

  6. Team Supervision and Development - Lead, mentor and support the Inventory Unit to maintain accuracy, system expertise, and high-quality data inputs and outputs.  Foster a collaborative of positive team culture that promotes engagement and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standards

•    Two-year technical diploma in Asset Management, Data Governance, Spatial Data, Property Records Management, Business Management or in a related field plus six years related experience; or equivalent as described below; 

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

•    1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or

•    1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:

•    Expertise in asset management inventory systems, including BLIMS, FAMIS, and integration with multiple platforms

•    Skilled in maintaining data integrity through validation, quality assurance, and compliance standards

•    Ability to lead complex projects and deliver accurate, timely reports

•    Experienced in managing system enhancements and upgrades including release management, User Acceptance testing, and troubleshooting

•    Proficient in data reporting and integration using Power BI and relational databases

•    Skilled in developing and delivering tailored technical training programs

•    Effective in supervising and mentoring technical teams to ensure high performance

•    Knowledgeable in compliance requirements, including FOIP, legislation, and audit frameworks

•    Strong technical communication and stakeholder engagement skills
