Mississauga, Ontario, Canada PLC Group Full time

We are seeking a highly resourceful and research-driven
Product Owner / Coordinator

to spearhead the development of our next-generation IoT Gateway. This role is central to defining and executing the product vision for the gateway, treating it as a
standalone, deployable device

for rugged environments, with an initial focus on
telecom tower and Data center monitoring

.

This is a unique, high-impact role requiring a blend of product strategy, technical understanding, and hands-on design. You will be the crucial link between our engineering teams and the product vision, responsible for defining the entire product journey.

Crucially,
you will be directly responsible for creating the User Interface (UI)

. You will be expected to
leverage modern AI tools

to independently generate wireframes, mockups, and designs for the gateway's management interfaces.

The ideal candidate has a foundational
understanding of IoT Gateways

, a strong
aptitude for research

, and a proven ability to be resourceful and self-sufficient.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Vision & Strategy:
  • Own the Product Journey:

Define and manage the complete product lifecycle for the IoT Gateway, from concept and research through development, deployment, and end-of-life.
- Conduct Research:

Perform market, user, and technology research to identify key requirements for a standalone telecom monitoring gateway. Analyze competitor products and emerging IoT trends.
- Define Use Cases:

Clearly articulate and document user personas and detailed use cases for telecom tower operators, technicians, and managers.
- Hands-on UI Design & Development Collaboration:
- Lead & Create UI Designs:

Independently own and execute the entire design process

for the gateway's local and remote management UIs, from initial concept to developer-ready assets.
- Utilize AI Design Tools:

Actively use and master AI-powered design tools (e.g., AI mockup generators, component builders, wireframing assistants) to create high-quality, functional, and user-centric designs
without a dedicated UI team.
- Generate Design Assets:

Create all necessary design artifacts, including user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes.
- Translate Vision to Tasks:

Break down the product vision (including your own UI designs) into clear, actionable user stories, epics, and technical requirements for the engineering team.
- Backlog Management:

Own, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog, ensuring development efforts align with business objectives and user needs.
- Technical & Product Focus:
- Gateway Expertise:

Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the gateway's technical components, including hardware, firmware, and connectivity (e.g., 4G/5G, LoRaWAN).
- "Standalone Device" Philosophy:

Champion the design of the gateway as a robust, reliable, and secure standalone product capable of independent operation in remote, harsh environments.
- Telecom Monitoring:

Ensure the product roadmap includes all critical features for the telecom tower use case, such as power monitoring, environmental sensing, security (door access), and remote reboot capabilities.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience:

0-3 years of experience in Product Management, Product Ownership, Business Analysis, or a Technical Coordinator role, preferably with hardware or embedded software products.
- Domain Knowledge:

A solid
understanding of IoT principles and architectures

. Specific familiarity with the function and components of
IoT Gateways

is required.
- Hands-on Design Skill:

Proven ability to
independently create user-centric UI designs

and wireframes. A portfolio or examples of past design work are
strongly

required.
- Tech-Savvy & Resourceful:

Must be a resourceful self-starter. Demonstrable experience with, or a strong aptitude for,
rapidly learning and using AI-powered design tools

and other modern software to create assets efficiently.
- Research Aptitude:

Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, learn complex technical concepts quickly, and synthesize findings into a clear product strategy.
- Agile Methodology:

Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment, including backlog grooming and writing user stories.
- Communication:

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct Industry Experience:

Previous experience in the telecommunications industry or with remote industrial monitoring.
- Technical Background:

A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Prototyping:

Experience with standard design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch), even if you will be using AI tools, to show a grasp of design fundamentals.
