About UsThe Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of seven Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Communication Sciences and Disorders and Food and Nutritional Sciences), a large Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and four Research Centers. The faculty has more than 4,000 undergraduate students and more than 900 graduate students (200 PhD students).

ResponsibilitiesThe Research Manager is a grant funded role which oversees and allocates work assignments and functions under the supervision of Dr. Modanloo to support a the newcomer health program, and research. The incumbent will participate in the development of processes, provide expertise in response to client needs, and offer support and advice for process improvements or modified client services. The Research Manager will support the implementation of a variety of strategies, systems and procedures. The incumbent will serve as a principal source of information regarding administrative functions, and will monitor, provide analysis, information and reports for review and forecasting. The Manager will also participate in hiring, developing, scheduling and overseeing staff.
Qualifications
Education:
- PhD or PhD candidacy in Health Research
Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in data management, HR management and multiple project coordination/oversight
- Experience managing staff and projects; experience with strategy implementation and operationalization preferred
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Knowledge of general office procedures
- Familiarity with best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new business processes and procedures
- Familiarity with financial budgeting and principles
- Familiarity with Human Resources principles and practices
- In-depth knowledge of best practices in building a strong collaborative team and leading people
- Familiarity with University policies and procedures preferred
- Analytical skills in the areas of financial and business management to draft proposals, forecast expenses and monitor other relevant outcomes
- Ability to effectively drive and manage change initiatives that align with organizational strategies and/or provide opportunities to increase efficiency
- Ability to foster collaboration and respect among team members
- Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
- Ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
- Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
- Ability to promote individual growth by encouraging others to learn new skills and develop themselves
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to quickly re-allocate resources and adjust priorities in response to unexpected events or changing circumstances
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to organize and effectively manage financial and human resources needed to achieve results
- Project management skills to ensure team roles are clear, milestones are communicated and deadlines are met
- Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
- Ability to develop strategies that are in line with the University's mission and which balance competing priorities
