Field Service Technician - Injection Molding Machines

Location: Various Customer Sites (Travel Required)

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Service Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of injection molding machines at our customers' facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems specific to the plastics manufacturing industry. This role requires extensive travel and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service and technical support.

Key Responsibilities

Installation and Commissioning:

• Perform machine installation, startup, and testing of new and used injection molding equipment.
• Verify proper machine setup, including utility connections (electrical, water, air, etc.).

Troubleshooting and Repair:

• Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on various brands and models of injection molding machines (e.g., toggle, hydraulic, all-electric).
• Use precision measuring tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic equipment.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and mechanical blueprints.

Preventative Maintenance (PM):

• Execute scheduled preventative maintenance tasks to ensure optimal machine performance and longevity.
• Identify potential failures and recommend corrective actions or necessary upgrades.

Customer Support and Training:

• Provide on-site technical support and guidance to customer maintenance and production personnel.
• Conduct basic operator and maintenance training on machine operation, safety, and routine maintenance procedures.
• Maintain a professional and customer-focused demeanor at all times.

Documentation and Reporting:

• Accurately complete service reports, expense reports, and other required documentation in a timely manner.
• Maintain service vehicle inventory and tools.

Required Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or Technical Certification in a relevant field (e.g., Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology) is highly preferred.
• Experience: 3+ years of experience as a Field Service Technician or Maintenance Technician working directly with industrial injection molding machines is mandatory.

Technical Skills:

• Expertise in troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems (pumps, valves, accumulators, cylinders).
• Strong knowledge of electrical control systems, including PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), servo drives, motor controls, and industrial wiring (up to 480V three-phase).
• Proficiency in diagnosing issues with machine mechanics (clamping units, injection units, gearboxes).
• Familiarity with various hot runner systems and auxiliary equipment (e.g., material handlers, chillers, temperature control units).

General Requirements:

• Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% of the time, often on short notice, including overnight stays.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.) and work in industrial environments.
• Excellent ENGLISH written and verbal communication skills.
