With over 250 events across more than 40 countries, Spartan delivers large-scale outdoor events designed to challenge participants of all ages and abilities.

About the Engagement

Spartan is seeking experienced Kids Obstacle Race Support Contractors to assist with the setup, operation, and teardown of Kids Race courses at events across Canada.

This is a project-based independent contractor opportunity, engaged on an event-by-event basis between May and October. Contractors may be required to travel to multiple events and typically remain on site for 6 consecutive days per event, depending on operational needs.

The Kids Obstacle Race Support Contractor works collaboratively with the Kids Lead and event teams to ensure safe, efficient, and positive race experiences for youth participants.

Compensation & Covered Expenses

  • $250 CAD per event day (flat daily contractor rate)
  • Project-based compensation; no overtime premiums apply
  • Paid rest breaks included within the daily rate
  • Travel and accommodations booked and paid for by the company, when required
  • Per diem provided for meals on designated travel days
  • All meals, snacks, and beverages provided on site during event days
  • Certain work-related expenses may be eligible for reimbursement in accordance with company policy

Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, remittances, and insurance, as required by law.

Scope of Services

Contractors engaged in this role may provide services including:

  • Marking and preparing the Kids Race course
  • Lifting, staging, and installing obstacles, fencing, tents, and equipment
  • Building and dismantling Kids Race obstacles
  • Driving stakes and anchors using appropriate tools
  • Installing branding elements such as flags, barriers, and jackets
  • Building Kids course start and finish line areas
  • Supporting Kids Race day operations
  • Breaking down and packing course materials for transport
  • Removing course markings, tape, stakes, and debris
  • Cleaning and organizing Kids course equipment and crates
  • Coordinating and directing volunteers assigned to Kids Race areas
  • Participating in project-related briefings or coordination calls as required
  • Following all applicable safety standards, procedures, and event protocols

Contractor Qualifications

  • Experience in event production, operations, outdoor work, or similar environments
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-output settings
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Analytical and solutions-oriented approach to problem solving
  • Willingness to learn established procedures while contributing to continuous improvement
  • Comfortable coordinating volunteers and supporting team workflows
  • Proficiency with basic administrative tools (e.g., Google Drive, Excel)

Project & Physical Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel for extended event assignments (often 12+ days)
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varied and sometimes severe weather conditions
  • Physically capable of long, demanding event days
  • Comfortable working around children in an active event environment
  • Valid driver's licence with a clean driving record
  • Willingness to operate heavy machinery is an asset but not required

Engagement Classification

This role is engaged as an independent contractor for short-term, event-based assignments and is compensated by a flat daily rate. There is no guarantee of ongoing work beyond scheduled event projects.

Engagements are offered on a non-exclusive, project-by-project basis. Contractors may accept or decline individual event opportunities and are free to provide services to other clients.
