Overview

Gigi's Spice Corner is an established Indian restaurant, operating since 2018, and much loved by the locals, for its authentic flavours and warm hospitality. We specialize in both South and North Indian dishes and are looking to expand our culinary team with a passionate and skilled South-Indian chef.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food service and kitchen management, demonstrating exceptional leadership skills and a commitment to food safety and quality. This role requires creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. As a Chef, you will be responsible for overseeing kitchen operations, ensuring that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook authentic Indian dishes (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian)
  • Create and adjust recipes based on regional styles (e.g., South Indian, North Indian, Tandoor, Indo-Chinese, etc.)
  • Manage kitchen inventory, prep lists, and daily mise en place
  • Supervise kitchen staff and ensure food preparation standards are met
  • Maintain cleanliness and compliance with health & safety regulations
  • Plan seasonal menus and special items
  • Monitor food costs and minimize waste
  • Collaborate with management for catering menus and large orders

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a cook or chef specializing in South-Indian cuisine
  • Strong knowledge of Indian spices, cooking techniques, and regional dishes
  • Experience with tandoor oven, dosa griddle, or curry preparation is an asset
  • Able to handle a high-paced kitchen environment
  • Excellent time management and ability to work in a multicultural team setting.
  • Food Handler Certification (preferred or willing to obtain)
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Must be willing to commit a minimum of 30 hrs/week, with availability to work over the weekends as per business needs.
