Currently, we are looking for Medical Directors for Mental Health and Addictions and Continuing Care.
These part-time opportunities are open to

The opportunities:
Medical Director, Mental Health and Addictions (0.3 FTE)
The Medical Director, Mental Health & Addictions, in partnership with the EVP, Physician Workforce and Stewardship is responsible for advancing AMA's priorities for mental health and addictions services across the continuum of care. This includes integration of such services into the health neighborhood and multi-disciplinary care teams. This role will act as the primary point of contact for medical matters between the AMA (including AMA Section executives and related specialty/primary care alliances) and all four health agencies on issues involving mental health and addiction treatment services. This role will be responsible for driving collaboration with Recovery Alberta and Acute Care Alberta on matters involving mental health and addiction treatment practice guidelines, practice optimization, practice change management; integration and referrals; connecting with geographic physician leads (e.g. through the new 'corridor' structure)
for patient flow and navigation; and contributing to physician workforce matters. The Medical Director will also support the EVP in liaising with the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions on related health policy implementation. This list is not exhaustive but instead represents the matters that AMA physician leadership will need to be engaged on.
Medical Director, Continuing Care (0.3FTE)
The Medical Director, Continuing Care, in partnership with the EVP, Physician Workforce and Stewardship is responsible for advancing AMA's priorities for continuing care (including home care and supportive living) services across the continuum of care. This includes integration of such services into the health neighborhood and multi-disciplinary care teams. This role will act as the primary point of contact for medical matters between the AMA (including AMA Section executives and related specialty/primary care alliances) and all four health agencies on issues involving home and community care, supportive living accommodations, continuing care homes, palliative and end-of-life care. This role will be responsible for driving collaboration between the AMA and Assisted Living Alberta around practice guidelines, practice optimization, practice change management; integration and referrals; connecting with geographic physician leads (e.g. through the new 'corridor' structure)
for patient flow and navigation; and contributing to physician workforce matters. The Medical Director will also support the EVP in liaising with the Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services on related health policy implementation. This list is not exhaustive but instead represents the matters that AMA physician leadership will need to be engaged on.
Education and Experience Qualifications:
- Medical Doctor (MD)
- The Contractor must be a practicing physician in Alberta and be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta.
- The individual must acknowledge that they are a member of the AMA in good standing and will remain a member in good standing throughout the term of the contract.
- Experience as a practicing physician withing the focus area of the position (i.e., mental health and addictions or continuing care)
- Understanding of all levels of the healthcare system in Alberta, including the provincial, geographic, and local practice levels.
- Awareness of the new Government of Alberta health system structure, including integration capabilities.
- Ability to understand and translate the elements of change management required at different levels of the healthcare system including clinics and regional care networks.
- Understanding of the AMA Accelerating Change and Transformation program, including the importance of practice/change management to achievement of quality health outcomes.
Skills:
- Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, including physicians, administrators, and operational leaders.
- Clinical Knowledge: Extensive clinical practice knowledge to understand physician challenges and translate those into effective workforce solutions.
- Change Management: Skill in driving changes at the hospital and regional level.
- Operational Efficiency: Experience in improving the efficiency of clinical operations, including optimizing workflows, reducing redundancies, and maintaining quality care.
- Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information to various audiences, including physicians, executives, board members, and external partners.
- Quality Improvement: Knowledge of quality improvement principles, performance metrics, and evidence-based practices that lead to better patient outcomes and more efficient workforce management.
