Behind the scenes, but ahead of the curve: help us develop the next-generation public broadcaster.
Technology and Infrastructures (T&I) is the backbone and the future forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. We are the people that make stuff work. We make connections — between media content, systems, people and places. We are the space in between.
A place with purpose. CBC/Radio-Canada has always been a highly regarded pioneer of media technology. Not just in Canada, but around the world. Today, we are transforming ourselves from conventional radio and television broadcaster into a modern digital media company. Technology is the driving force, and we are the team making it happen.
This role requires full-time on-site presence.
Role
Provide on-site technical support for production and broadcast server systems, including both hardware and software, to ensure their functionality, reliability and maintenance. Perform all duties associated with maintaining production and broadcasting equipment.
Description of Duties
- Ensure, in tandem with server management technicians, the proper functioning of server systems and other associated peripheral systems, based on production and maintenance needs.
- Continuously monitor, before and during production, the status of production server systems and other associated systems; detect and correct malfunctions, documenting and reporting them as needed.
- Help develop and apply maintenance procedures.
- Provide advice and guidance to server-management, maintenance and production technicians.
- Identify and determine temporary system limitations; inform the production team and follow up as needed.
- Troubleshoot system outages with multiple departments to ensure that the necessary corrective action is taken, and inform the relevant people.
- Co-ordinate and review the work of technicians while actively assisting and advising them.
- In emergencies, contact the Corporation's approved vendors to obtain the servicing needed to bring servers or other equipment back online; ensure that services rendered and equipment ordered meet the requirements of the initial agreement.
- Perform software and hardware upgrades on production and broadcast servers as well as associated peripheral systems.
- Play an active role in implementing, modifying and reconfiguring systems.
- Guide and train maintenance technicians of all levels in the performance of their duties.
- Perform all duties associated with maintaining production and broadcast equipment.
- Update your skills so that you can perform your assigned duties and keep abreast of technological developments.
- Complete the appropriate forms and documents; share information verbally or in writing to ensure proper follow-up and to keep others informed.
- Familiarize other employees with their duties and work environment.
- If necessary, carry out all or part of the duties of another job classification within an equivalent or lower salary group, as well as other related duties.
Job Requirements
Education or equivalent knowledge:
College diploma (DCS) in electronics technology (audiovisual, telecommunications or computer systems option) or other relevant field.
Experience:
Five years' experience required to perform duties satisfactorily. Experience coordinating a work team.
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next
step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:
- A mandatory Criminal record check.
- Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
