Behind the scenes, but ahead of the curve: help us develop the next-generation public broadcaster.

Created in 2015 to align, lighten and modernize infrastructure, the Technology & Infrastructure (T & I) team is the backbone and the future forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. We are the people that make stuff work. We make connections — between media content, systems, people and places. We are the space in between.

A place with purpose. CBC/Radio-Canada has always been a highly regarded pioneer of media technology. Not just in Canada, but around the world. Today, we are transforming ourselves from conventional radio and television broadcaster into a modern digital media company. Technology is the driving force, and we are the team making it happen.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.

Role

Perform, as assigned by a technician from a higher group or by a supervisor, and in co-ordination with production teams, duties involved in maintaining production and broadcasting systems/equipment, such as configuring, installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and refurbishing, according to established standards, in a cross-functional environment that includes networking, optics, electronics, computer systems, mechanics, machining, welding, hydraulics and pneumatics.

Key Tasks

  • Perform, as assigned and in co-ordination with production teams, all duties associated with maintaining production and broadcasting systems/equipment (such as configuring, installing, inspecting, diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing and refurbishing).
  • Report on difficulties encountered or actions taken while performing maintenance on broadcasting and production systems/equipment, ensuring that the relevant people are informed.
  • Assist in the design and modification of parts, equipment and tools using techniques such as mechanics, machining, welding, hydraulics and pneumatics.

  • Follow approved technical procedures, suggesting new procedures and approaches as needed.
  • Help modify production and broadcasting systems/equipment under the co-ordination of a technician from a higher group.
  • Perform and report on quality control and preventive maintenance procedures as assigned.
  • Advise others on using production and broadcasting systems/equipment.
  • Source parts and technical materials; if requested, contact vendors for information and share it with the relevant people.
  • Make suggestions concerning spare parts or, as needed, acceptable equivalents.
  • Check facilities when complaints are received and suggest or decide on actions to take.
  • Ensure that plans, diagrams and procedures are updated; as needed, produce diagrams or sketches.
  • Referring to Corporation-supplied documentation, develop your knowledge so that you can perform your assigned duties and stay abreast of changing technology.
  • Complete the appropriate forms and documents; share information verbally or in writing to ensure proper follow-up and to keep others informed.
  • Familiarize other employees with their duties and the work environment.
  • Carry out, as needed, all or part of the duties of another job classification within an equivalent or lower salary group, as well as other related duties.

Job Requirements
