Role Description

This is a part-time role located in Brampton, ON. The Structural Steel Estimator will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing blueprints, drawings, and other technical documentation to prepare accurate material take-offs and labor cost estimates for structural steel projects. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with clients to clarify project requirements, maintaining cost databases, preparing bid proposals, and ensuring alignment with Project scope, project timelines and budgets. The role also involves meeting clients and building good rapport, negotiating contracts, sourcing material costs, communicating with suppliers, and staying updated on industry standards and pricing trends.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in the construction or steel fabrication industry is a must.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, materials, and the estimating process.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
  • Bluebeam knowledge is an asset.
  • Experience with project estimation software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in budgeting and cost management for construction-related projects.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in preparing estimates.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients and teams to clarify project needs.
  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
