OSP is a leading specialty chemicals provider predominately in the oil and gas and water treatment sectors, focused on innovative chemical solutions to optimize industrial operations. We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated
Technical Development Director
to support our commercial efforts and further develop technical commercial differentiators.
In this role, you will act as a thought leader, translator, and a bridge; leveraging your expertise in chemical processes, industrial applications, and biocidal chemistry.
Beyond technical expertise, we desire a candidate who will serve as an advocate for biocides and their appropriate application. This includes driving product development, advancing application-focused solutions, providing technical support, engaging with academia, speaking at pertinent industry conferences, and educating clients to elevate OSP's industry leadership. You will work closely with clients, engineering teams, R&D, and external stakeholders to solve complex challenges, shape industry standards, and optimize the performance of chemical treatments across diverse applications

Key Responsibilities

Technical Presence and Positioning
- Develop and execute a plan for growth
- Take ownership of fundraising events
- Act as a public representative for the organization
- Work cross-functionally with other teams
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (internal and external), including R&D, engineering, and field operations, to deliver comprehensive chemical solutions.
- Evaluate biocide treatments for microbial control, ensuring compatibility with other chemicals in industrial fluid systems.
- Collaborate with technical teams to identify the most effective biocide formulations and optimize performance.

Product Development and Value Proposition
- Design and implement chemical solutions for industrial applications, focusing on product differentiation and value proposition.
- Work alongside clients to tailor product offerings to meet specific operational challenges.
- Develop and test new chemical applications and product formulations based on project requirements.
- Oversee the execution of field trials and laboratory experiments to test new biocides, chemical additives, and treatment programs.
- Collect and analyze data to validate and optimize product performance

Client Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients by understanding their operational needs and providing tailored chemical solutions.
- Offer ongoing technical support and troubleshooting to resolve field issues related to chemical treatments.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, environmental guidelines, and safety standards when selecting and applying chemical treatments.
- Maintain a strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices in relation to chemical handling and fluid stream management.
Qualifications
- Education
: Graduate degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or related field is preferred. - Experience
: Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical applications, with a focus on biocides, fracturing fluids, and production systems within the oil and gas industry. - Technical

: Strong understanding of applied chemistry, biocide efficacy, and industrial chemical applications. - Laboratory

: Experience in designing and executing lab-scale and field-scale trials for chemical applications and treatments. - Problem

Preferred Skills:
- Experience with microbial control, biocide selection, and microbial contamination challenges.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations such as API, NACE, and ASTM.
- Proven experience speaking at industry events or engaging with academic and regulatory bodies.
- Knowledge of fracturing and production fluid systems in oil and gas.
Work Environment:
This position will require both office and fieldwork. Some travel to client sites, field locations, and industry conferences may be required for testing, operational support, and speaking engagements.
Ability to travel freely between Canada and USA is a requirement.
