Dol Turf is a recognized leader in the sports turf industry as a full-service provider specializing in turf services, bespoke construction, restoration and management of sports fields, and golf courses.
The Mechanic – Fleet & Equipment is responsible for performing diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on a broad range of vehicles and equipment, including pickup trucks, lawn and turf mowers, landscape and groundskeeping equipment, trailers, tractors, and other small engines. Reporting to the General Manager, this full-time, year round role ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably to support daily operational needs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on:
- Pickup trucks and light-duty vehicles
- Commercial and residential mowers
- Landscape and grounds maintenance equipment (e.g., trimmers, blowers, chainsaws)
- Utility trailers
- Agricultural and industrial tractors
- Perform small engine repairs (2-stroke and 4-stroke).
Preventative Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections according to established schedules.
- Perform oil changes, lubrication, tire replacements, blade sharpening, filter replacements, brake servicing, and general tune-ups.
- Maintain equipment logs and recommend proactive repairs to extend equipment life.
- Conduct annual safety inspections for both medium duty trucks and trailers
Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
- Use diagnostic tools, software, and manuals to identify equipment issues.
- Troubleshoot engine performance, fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulics, and drivetrains.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer standards and workplace safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
- Follow environmental procedures for handling fuel, oil, batteries, and other hazardous materials.
Inventory & Recordkeeping
- Track parts usage, submit requisitions for replacement parts and supplies.
- Maintain accurate repair records, service logs, and inspection reports.
- Conduct seasonal preparation of equipment (winterization, spring readiness, etc.).
Operational Support
- Provide guidance to operators on proper equipment use and basic maintenance.
- Assist with emergency breakdown service in the field when required.
- Support equipment purchasing decisions by providing mechanical insight.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification as an Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Equipment Technician, or Small Engine Mechanic is an asset (not always required depending on scope).
- 5+ years of experience repairing a broad range of vehicles and equipment (light-duty trucks, mowers, tractors, small engines, trailers).
- Valid Ontario Driver's License with a clean Drivers Abstract
- Preference will be given to holders of 310T or 310S certifications
- Preference for those that have experience with Drive ON performing annual safety inspections
Skills & Competencies
- Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills.
- Ability to repair diesel, gasoline, and small engines.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems, welding, and fabrication (an asset).
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize urgent repairs.
- Effective communication and documentation skills.
Working Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50–75 lbs as required.
- Comfortable working in outdoor or shop environments in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, bend, and work in awkward positions as needed.
- Shop environment with occasional field repairs.
- May require overtime during peak seasons (spring/summer).
- Use of protective equipment (PPE) required
