Under the supervision of the Dental Manager, the COHI Aide will be responsible to implement and deliver the "Children's Oral Health Initiative COHI" program, which focuses on children from ages 0–7 years of age and families. COHI is a community-based initiative to prevent tooth decay and improve oral health among children and families. Prior to performing any COHI dental services, the COHI Dental Aide will be required to successfully complete the 4-day COHI training offered by AHA- Dental Program and Health Canada. Recertification will be completed annually.

Dental Aide- COHI Duties:

  • Apply as required, fluoride varnish to children.
  • Provide one-to-one oral hygiene instruction.
  • Oral health education and promotion activities.
  • Attend community events at health fairs and school booth display and provide educational resources and information to community members.
  • Booking appointments, daily administration.
  • Janitorial duties: washing counter top, chair, sink, and sweep and mop floors. Pick up and throw away garbage.
  • COHI Aide training is available.
  • Other duties required.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

· Provide chair side assistance to the Dental Therapist.

· Assist with dental sterilization.

· Book and arrange for COHI activities.

· Arrange and book appointment with parent and caregivers.

· Deliver COHI sessions and respond to questions.

· Promote good Oral Health habits.

· Communicate and translate language in Denesuline is required.

· Work directly with patients, clients, residents and public.

· Work independently and as part of an inter-disciplinary team.

· Maintain records, policies and procedures.

· Perform various filing and data entry for patients and clients.

· Be a good role model in the community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· COHI Aide certified through Health Canada.

· Education and/or experience will be considered.

· Ability to speak fluently in Dene is considered an asset.

· Knowledge of cultural values and practices within the communities.

· Valid Class 5 driver's license.

· Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Search.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: Up to $22.29 per hour
