Job Summary

As a Payment Assessor, you'll play a key role in ensuring workers receive the wage replacement benefits they're entitled to after a workplace injury. Using your keen attention to detail and strong knowledge of policies and legislation, you'll review complex wage information to ensure accurate, timely payments. Job Duties:
  • Gather, review, and analyze wage-related data to establish and issue payments on accepted claims.
  • Communicate with injured workers, employers, insurance companies, and internal stakeholders to clarify information before benefits are processed.
  • Perform detailed and sometimes complex calculations for wage loss, benefit adjustments, garnishments, annuities, overpayments, and other entitlements.
  • Interpret and apply legislation such as The Workers Compensation Act along with policies, financial documents, and income tax returns.
  • Set up and maintain regular payment schedules on claim files.
  • Serve as a technical resource to other Compensation Services staff regarding payment calculations.
  • Participate in meetings related to payment processes and initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Actively enrolled in post-secondary education, returning in Fall 2026
  • Minimum six (6) months experience in a customer service environment addressing customer inquires/concerns.
  • Mathematical Aptitude – Strong ability to perform calculations and assess wage and benefit information accurately.
  • Analytical Skills – Ability to interpret legislation, financial statements, and income tax documentation.
  • Communication – Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with stakeholders.
  • Technical Skills – Proficiency in Windows-based systems and software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Organization – Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Teamwork – Capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset, but not required.
Additional Information

Starting salary: $60,844/annually

This summer student position is only open to students who will be returning to post-secondary education in the fall. Any applicant who does not meet this criteria will not be considered.

Please note that this position will begin on April 27, 2026 with a 6 week training class and end on August 28, 2026. The hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m - 4:30 p.m.

You may be asked to demonstrate your ability through competency based interviewing and/or testing.

Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages (English & French) is an asset.

A satisfactory criminal record check will be required for the successful candidate.
