Description
The Lead, Employment & Training for NexGen will be responsible for assisting with the implementation on the commitments of NexGen IBA/MBA's regarding the employment and training programs throughout the Local Priority Area. The incumbent will work with the Vice President of Regional Development, administering the strategies and processes regarding employment and training opportunities with the Nation partners and work with all stakeholders to support the people of the LPA in the transition from training to employment. Working closely with NexGen's management team they will ensure that the employment processes in place are followed, and to assist with employment readiness that is in alignment with the overall goals and objectives of NexGen and all Projects being undertaken.

The incumbent will partner closely with the Indigenous communities that NexGen is working with and will have a strong focus on all the communities within the Local Priority Area (LPA). The incumbent will be responsible for building partnerships with Indigenous communities and organizations, training institutions and ensuring that the employment readiness, training programs and services provided are culturally appropriate and responsive to the needs of NexGen and the communities. They will be responsible for the administrative tasks when it comes to NexGen's commitments with employment processes and assisting with developing and delivering training programs that help Indigenous people and community members of the LPA acquire the skills and qualifications needed to work in the uranium mining industry. With the development and delivery of the training programs, the Lead, Employment & Training will also be responsible for tracking and reporting on the success and outcomes of the training programs.

It's important to note that working in a uranium mine comes with specific hazards and safety precautions that need to be taken, so the manager would also be responsible for ensuring all the training and development programs align with the safety standards and regulations of the industry.

Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Indigenous Relations

  • Partner and provide leadership in maintaining effective relationships with Indigenous communities.
  • Work collaboratively with Indigenous partners and contractors to ensure cultural alignment.
  • Collaborate with NexGen departments to promote Indigenous engagement.
  • Participate and lead formal engagement meetings to maintain relationships and align interests.
  • Represent NexGen on Implementation Committees, Environment Committees, and Joint Working Groups.
  • Schedule and facilitate monthly meetings with institutions and training groups to align on Nation needs.

Training & Strategy

  • Support planning, execution, and documentation of training activities.
  • Implement training and employment strategies in line with IBA/MBA commitments.
  • Develop and execute strategic career development plans aligned with operational readiness.
  • Monitor and report on employment statistics, such as retention, along with training program effectiveness.
  • Integrate with external partners (Morris Interactive, Northlands, GDI, SIIT) for training rollouts.
  • Manage NexGen-led programs like Pathways to Your Future and Community Career Fairs.
  • Oversee contractor management for training delivery, including tracking expenses and performance.
  • Identify professional development opportunities for graduates of training initiatives.
  • Travel to communities for graduation ceremonies, interviews, and contractor oversight.

Administration

  • Lead logistical planning and coordination of events.
  • Independently provide proactive recommendations and implement solutions to support strategic goals.
  • Stay informed of uranium mining industry developments and adapt programs accordingly.
  • Manage administrative functions with a focus on advancing strategic leadership, including coordination with government stakeholders and reporting to the CEO.
  • Format presentations, prepare monthly reports, and maintain reporting requirements.
  • Develop and prepare budgets for training and development programs.
  • Maintain and update SharePoint for accurate consolidated documentation.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • University Degree in Education, Communication, Human Resources, Indigenous Studies, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in training, workforce development, or employment programming, preferably within the mining or resource development sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and career development initiatives, including short- and long-term workforce readiness programs.
  • Proven ability to manage contractors, budgets, and administrative reporting, including CEO-level and government stakeholder communications.
  • Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in-classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations, etc.).
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations, with a strong understanding of culturally responsive training and engagement practices.
  • Proven track record in facilitating diverse groups across different levels and sectors.
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills with internal teams and external partners (e.g., Morris Interactive, Northlands, GDI, SIIT).
  • Excellent communication, planning, and leadership skills, including formatting presentations and preparing monthly reports.
  • Self-starter with a high level of initiative, capable of providing proactive recommendations.
  • Demonstrate energy, ambition, and operational efficiency in all aspects of the role.
  • Proficient in MS PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint, with experience in maintaining documentation and reporting systems.
