The City of Abbotsford's International Airport is currently seeking a self-motivated professional to join their dynamic team as auxiliary Airport Operations Specialists.

In this exciting role you will bring a high degree of technical knowledge to respond to aircraft and other emergencies; perform groundside, airside, and building maintenance of the airfield and airport facilities; and ensure safe, secure and efficient airport operations in accordance with the Airport's Safety Management System (SMS).

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting facility inspections to ensure the safety and efficient operation of the airport
  • Controlling Foreign Object Debris (FOD) both airside and groundside
  • Performing seasonal maintenance operations utilizing heavy equipment such as tractors and snow plows
  • Maintaining airport infrastructure including terminal building, parking lot and airfield systems
  • Supporting irregular operations (aircraft emergencies, incidents and special events)

To be considered for this position you will have:

  • Completion of Grade 12;
  • Minimum two years' current airside operation experience;
  • Minimum one year construction/trades experience;

You will be required to obtain the following prior to the completion of probation:

  • CARs 303 and 323 training and qualification requirements related to Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF);
  • Class 3 BC Driver's Licence
  • Restricted Radio Operators Licence;
  • Basic First Aid with CPR;
  • Airside Vehicle Operating Permit;
  • Restricted Area Pass (Criminal Record Check required to obtain.)

Due to the nature of the job, you must be available to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. You must also have the ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions including exposure to dust, high noise levels, and temperature fluctuation and be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position.

This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $35.62 to $41.89 as well as a percentage in lieu of vacation, benefits and stat holidays. At the City of Abbotsford we work strongly to create a challenging yet rewarding environment for our employees to thrive.
