The Ministry of Education and Childcare supports students, parents, teachers and administrators from Early Childhood Services (ECS) through Grade 12. Through safe and caring schools for all students, Alberta's government is making life better by investing in education - one of the most important investments we can make in our future. The Ministry has the following responsibilities: develop curriculum and set standards; evaluate curriculum and assess outcomes; teacher development and certification; support students with diverse learning needs; fund and support school boards; First Nations, Métis and Inuit and francophone education; and oversee basic education policy and regulations.

The Field Services Branch, within the System Excellence Division of the Ministry of Education and Childcare, supports the effectiveness and accountability of Alberta's K–12 education system by providing analysis, oversight, and advisory services to school authorities and education stakeholders. The branch monitors compliance with legislation and assurance requirements and supports the implementation of provincial programs, policies, priorities, and initiatives to promote continuous system improvement.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Field Services Manager, the Field Services Analyst provides a broad range of analysis and support services to the Field Services team comprised of management, professional, and administrative support staff. This position conducts environmental scans and collects and analyzes data from a variety of internal and external information sources to identify trends, capacity issues, gaps, and potential services to inform increased system effectiveness and policy. The Field Services Analyst informs operational and strategic decisions of the branch, sector, and department, and contributes to identifying opportunities for building system capacity and school authority improvement. This position also supports project management for operations and initiatives led by the branch, including monitoring and analyzing the progress of school authorities in implementing provincial programs, policy, priorities, and initiatives.

  • Provide analytical, research, and advisory support to branch and sector leadership to advance ministry mandate, priorities, and system effectiveness.

  • Conduct environmental scans and analyze data from internal, external, and public sources to identify trends, gaps, risks, and opportunities within the K–12 education system.

  • Review and analyze school authority education plans, results reports, operating plans, and monitoring documents to assess compliance with legislation, assurance requirements, and provincial

frameworks.

  • Analyze independent school and home education documentation in accordance with the Education Act, applicable regulations, and ministry policies.

  • Prepare high-quality briefing materials and decision-support products, including Action Request responses, briefing notes, reports, presentations, correspondence, and summaries for senior leadership.

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance data collection and tracking systems to support evidence-based reporting, monitoring, and internal decision-making..

  • Support policy and program analysis by researching emerging issues, trends, best practices, and system impacts to inform program development and continuous improvement.

  • Coordinate and manage projects and workflows, including planning activities, tracking progress, managing timelines, identifying risks, and ensuring quality and timeliness of deliverables.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including ministry staff, cross-government partners, school authorities, and stakeholders, and represent the branch on committees and working

groups as required.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency:

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

Required:

  • Ability to collect, analyze, synthesize, and interpret qualitative and quantitative data from multiple internal and external sources.
  • Ability to review and analyze school authority, independent school, charter, and home education documentation against legislation, regulations, policy frameworks, and assurance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of government policy environments and accountability frameworks.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate briefing notes, reports, Action Request responses, correspondence, presentations, and decision-support materials for senior leadership.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey complex information effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with ministry colleagues, cross-government partners, school authorities, and external stakeholders.

Assets:

  • Experience conducting environmental scans to support strategic planning, policy development, or program improvement.
  • Experience developing, maintaining, or enhancing data tracking systems, dashboards, or integrated reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of Alberta's K–12 education system, including school authorities, independent schools, charter schools, and home education frameworks.
