Facilities & Maintenance Lead

Overview:
The Facilities and Maintenance Lead will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all the facilities and equipment that CCWA operates including, but not limited to, the road and trail network, the Journeyman lodge and associated structures, the base area buildings and shop. This dynamic position will require a flexible schedule to accommodate high and low demand times and after hour callouts. The ideal candidate will be organized and self-motivated with a love for the outdoors.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities would include the following and more:
- Oversight of potable water testing program both at the base and the lodge (training provided)
- Ensuring the various lodge and base area systems are functioning properly through constant maintenance, operational checks and scheduling of appropriate repairs or inspections as needed. These systems include:
Electrical system, Propane gas system, Water system, Septic system, Fire suppression systems, Fire alarm systems, HVAC, Communications (radios, satellite, etc.), Etc.
- Managing propane and diesel fuel for the lodge and gasoline and diesel for the base area, including planning for adequate supplies, maintaining storage, and tracking consumption.
- Oversight of capital projects from the identification of a need, long-term planning and budgeting, right through to completion. The types of projects that can be expected are:
New sauna construction, Kitchen upgrades, Bathroom renovations, Wet bar construction, Deck replacement, Facility painting, Etc.
- Supporting lodge staff with all operational aspects of the lodge facilities, including training them in their use and following up with regular inspections and maintenance to ensure that everything is operating smoothly.
- Ensuring that the parking area and access road snow plowing is completed in a timely manner so that it does not interfere with daily operations.
- Responding to any emergencies that may arise such as power outages, washouts, etc.
- Developing of a comprehensive equipment tracking and maintenance program and then overseeing the program to ensure that all equipment is well maintained
- Undertake or supervise all in-house maintenance and organize all external equipment maintenance.
- Maintain OH&S program, including chairing safety meetings, ensuring proper PPE is available and used and that employees are properly trained and following OH&S program
- Organizing contractors as required for both regular/annual work items as well as for capital projects or unique one-of projects.
- Undertake road and trail maintenance as required, both in the summer and winter including grooming the winter trails when required
Desired Training & Skills:
The Facilities and Maintenance Manager position is ideally suited to a jack-of-all skills type person with experience and training across a broad spectrum of trades and experience working with / operating heavy equipment. Formal training in a trade or a post secondary degree is desirable but not required but must be a self-starter with the ability to work in a team environment, take initiative, assess priorities and multi-task. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in:
- Contract and project management
- Operation of heavy machinery, especially snowcats
- Electrical systems
- Plumbing & septic systems
- The safe operation of offroad vehicles including snowmobiles, ATV's and side-by-sides
- Residential type construction including framing, drywall, roofing, etc.
- Chainsaw operation
- Potable water testing programs
- OH&S management
- Reading design and architectural drawings and associated specifications
