About the Position:
We are seeking an Indigenous Relations Business Development Manager to strengthen our partnerships with Indigenous communities and organizations across Alberta and Western Canada. This role will combine business development, relationship management, and strategic engagement to advance mutually beneficial opportunities. The successful candidate will help build trust, identify shared value initiatives, and support the company's commitment to reconciliation and inclusive growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Relationship Building

  • Develop and maintain meaningful, respectful relationships with Indigenous communities, businesses, and leadership.

  • Act as a trusted liaison between the company and Indigenous partners, ensuring open communication and mutual understanding.

  • Business Development & Partnership Growth

  • Identify and pursue opportunities for collaboration, joint ventures, and procurement with Indigenous-owned businesses.

  • Support the integration of Indigenous participation in major projects, supply chains, and local workforce initiatives.
  • Strategic Guidance & Internal Advocacy

  • Advise senior leadership on Indigenous relations strategies, policies, and cultural awareness.

  • Work with internal teams to align business activities with reconciliation commitments, ESG initiatives, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Community & Economic Development

  • Collaborate with Indigenous partners on capacity-building, employment, and training initiatives.

  • Promote sustainable development and environmental stewardship consistent with both community priorities and company goals

  • Entrepreneurial mindset

  • Develop and establish Univar Solutions' Indigenous Partnership Program

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in Indigenous relations, stakeholder engagement, or business development—ideally within energy, mining, natural resources, or industrial sectors.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous history, culture, protocols, and current issues in Alberta and Western Canada.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust, foster collaboration, and create business opportunities with Indigenous communities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills.
  • Must demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Ability to travel regularly within Alberta and occasionally across Canada.
  • A university degree or diploma in Indigenous Studies, Business, Public Relations, or a related field is preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
