We are currently seeking a
Research Farm Intern
for the Development Biology Team. This role will assist the Station manager with all crop protection, and agronomy research as well as new technology evaluations and breeding work at the Nufarm Technology Development Station at Olds College, Olds, Alberta. A knowledge of agricultural practices in Canada is required to support the station's objectives. Attention to detail and competency in general agricultural equipment operation will ensure you succeed.
Nufarm will help you to develop agronomic skills, learn the basics of research management and expose you to many aspects of the industry. A summer internship with Nufarm will help build your resume and provide you the skills, knowledge and contacts to help you succeed.
This internship will begin around May 1 and go through August 31, 2026.
You will be responsible to help drive the success of the Technology Development Station at Olds College. You will be a vital part of field and greenhouse research team ensuring success of the trials completed at the Technology Development Station. You will be responsible in helping to plant, evaluate and care for the trials placed both on station and in remote locations.
What will you be doing?
- Assist the station manager to coordinate and implement all research and development programs at the Nufarm Technology Development Station and off site at locations covering all soil zones and cropping zones of Alberta (potential overnight travel into Saskatchewan).
- Collaborate as a member of an international project team in a global organization working with industry leaders and experts
- Follow and observe safety and standard operating procedures for the station in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Interact with the sales and marketing departments to help with the running of customer field days and other customer focused activities
- Prepare and manage data from field and breeding trials to ensure accuracy and availability to the Development Team
What do you bring?
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary agricultural or biological program (other programs maybe considered).
- An interest in modern crop production, biology, experimental design, weeds and the general agricultural market in Canada.
- A valid driver's license (Class 5 or higher).
- A general knowledge of agricultural field crop production and willingness to operate small agricultural machinery such as tractors, planters and tillage tools.
- Knowledge of plant diseases, weed science, insect pests, acceptable agronomic practices.
- Attention to detail and ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- Proven effective communication skills, the ability to influence and drive learning, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift more than 20 kg (50 lbs)
- Willingness to work long hours when project and weather demands it
- A commitment to the full internship dates
