Assistant Professor, Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics

The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Saskatchewan invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Agricultural Economics with responsibilities in research and teaching. We seek a scholar who combines rigorous economic analysis with a commitment to applied research, stakeholder engagement, and innovative teaching. The successful candidate will advance understanding of agribusiness management and agricultural markets, while equipping students and stakeholders with practical tools to address the evolving challenges of food systems, sustainability, and rural development.

Key responsibilities
  • Research: Design and lead applied research on farm and agribusiness management, agricultural markets, policy analysis, or related fields. Publish in leading peer-reviewed journals and produce applied outputs such as extension bulletins, policy briefs, and industry reports.
  • Teaching: Deliver a mix of three (per year) undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Agricultural
  • Stakeholder engagement: Work closely with producer groups, agribusiness leaders, government agencies, and/or NGOs to co-develop solutions that address real-world challenges in agriculture and rural economies.
  • Project leadership: Secure external funding, manage multi-stakeholder projects, and contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives within the university and beyond.
Required qualifications
  • Ph.D. (completed by July 1, 2026) in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Economics, or a closely-related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality research using cutting-edge approaches in economic analysis, applied econometrics, agricultural policy, or agribusiness.
  • Evidence of innovative research and potential for sustained scholarly contributions.
  • Evidence of outstanding teaching skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to academic, producer, and policy audiences.
  • Evidence of requisite knowledge skills to secure competitive funding for research or extension projects
Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in one or more focal areas:
  • Agricultural price analysis, commodity markets, and international trade,
  • Agricultural finance, farm and agribusiness management, agricultural strategy, or
  • Rural and/or Indigenous development and food security.
The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics focuses its research and teaching around applied economics, agribusiness and agri-food policy, and economic analysis for the agriculture and resource sectors. We offer both doctoral and master's degrees in agricultural economics. Our undergraduate program has more than 250 students across four degrees: agribusiness, agricultural economics, resource economics and policy, and food industry management.

The College of Agriculture and Bioresources is an international leader in applied research and scholarship with expertise and integration across four primary themes: plants and animals; food, feed and bioproducts; environment and ecology; and business and applied Economics. The college has a century-long reputation for teaching, research and outreach and has been a consistent strength for the university. The college has played a pivotal role in the development of the agricultural and food industries in Saskatchewan with a legacy of public engagement and cooperative partnerships. Salary bands for this position for the academic year are as follows: Assistant Professor: $110,489 to $131,909. This position includes a comprehensive benefits package with a dental, health and extended vision care plan, pension plan, life insurance (compulsory and voluntary), academic long-term disability, sick leave, travel insurance, death benefits, an employee assistance program, a professional expense allowance, and a flexible health and wellness spending program.
