Position Overview

Are you passionate about empowering families and fostering lasting connections? The Multicultural Family Preservation Program (MFPP) is seeking a dedicated Outreach Family Counsellor to make a real impact in the lives of families referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). In this dynamic role, you will provide essential support, guiding parents with evidence-based strategies to strengthen their parenting capacity and nurture family integrity. Reporting to the Program Manager, our selected candidate will be you will engaging in intake processes, case management, and goal setting under the guidance of the program manager, while maintaining an active caseload of clients. You'll build positive relationships with parents, providing support through evidence-based strategies to reduce crises and strengthen family connections. Your role includes advocating for clients, participating in Integrated Case Management meetings, coordinating with MCFD social workers, and staying updated on community resources. Additionally, you will facilitate psycho-educational groups and supportive visitations, ensuring thorough assessment and planning for each visit. Accurate record-keeping and timely reporting to MCFD are also essential components of your responsibilities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position holds a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as Psychology, Child & Youth Care, or Sociology, along with experience working with parents facing emotional, social, and behavioral challenges in both individual and group settings. Direct program delivery experience in community social services is essential, along with knowledge of the Child, Family and Community Service Act and related risk assessment procedures. This role primarily involves serving Arabic-speaking clients, and proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable. Occasionally, you may be asked to assist clients who speak English or another language, provided an interpreter is available.

Required skills include a valid Level I First Aid certificate, a Class 5 Driver's License, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are crucial, along with a deep understanding of child development, parenting, and trauma's impact on families. The candidate must be committed to professional development, demonstrate teamwork abilities, maintain confidentiality, and be sensitive to cultural diversity. They should also be capable of presenting clearly in court when necessary.

This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
