Mechanical Engineer (Tank / Piping) – P.Eng.
Permanent | Full-Time
Location: Nisku, Calgary, or Fort McMurray, AB
About Connect Group Inc.
Connect Group Inc. (CGI) is an Alberta-based industrial contractor delivering project management and execution in high-consequence operating environments. We work where the work matters—oil & gas, mining, refineries, processing plants, and industrial facilities across Alberta.
We are an execution-focused contractor where engineering decisions directly impact safety, constructability, cost, and schedule in the field. Our teams work closely across engineering, construction, QA/QC, and clients to deliver work we stand behind.
Position:
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer (Tank / Piping) to support the design, assessment, and execution of industrial work involving piping systems, aboveground storage tanks, and pressure vessels.
This role goes beyond producing calculations and drawings. You will be involved throughout the project lifecycle—from proposal support and planning through execution, field support, and close-out. You will work closely with project managers, construction teams, inspectors, and clients to ensure work is safe, constructible, and aligned with CGI and client standards.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and analysis of piping systems, aboveground storage tanks, and pressure vessels in accordance with API 650, API 653, ASME Section VIII, ASME B31, and related codes and standards.
- Perform engineering calculations and assessments to ensure structural integrity, safety, and operational reliability.
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation using AutoCAD or equivalent drafting tools.
- Support Fitness-for-Service (FFS) evaluations in accordance with API 579-1, including assessment of existing assets.
- Provide technical input during project planning, execution, and close-out, including constructability reviews and field support as required.
- Participate in tank and vessel inspections, identifying required repairs, upgrades, or modifications and supporting execution planning.
- Support estimating activities by compiling and evaluating proposals, scopes, and technical inputs.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, construction, QA/QC, subcontractors, and clients to resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, client, and CGI standards throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of CGI engineering standards, procedures, and tools.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta (or eligible for registration).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in piping, tank, and pressure vessel engineering.
- Experience with aboveground storage tanks, including new design and maintenance of existing assets.
- Strong working knowledge of API 650, API 653, ASME Section VIII, ASME B31, and related standards.
- Experience supporting inspections, assessments, and repairs of tanks and vessels.
- Proficiency with engineering and drafting software (AutoCAD required; SolidWorks or equivalent considered an asset).
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress and structural assessments is an asset.
- Proven ability to support project execution, estimating, and proposal development.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across disciplines.
- Organized, accountable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
- Willingness to travel to job sites as required.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and professional integrity.
- Ability to successfully complete pre-access drug and alcohol testing.
What Will Set You Apart:
- Experience working in industrial or operating facilities.
- Comfort engaging with the field to validate designs and resolve issues.
- A practical, execution-focused mindset.
Why Join Connect Group?
- Be part of a hands-on team where engineering directly influences outcomes.
- Opportunity to grow into technical leadership or project leadership roles.
- Collaborative environment that values accountability, improvement, and teamwork.
- Competitive compensation and benefits.
The CGI Way (How We Work)
At CGI, how we deliver work matters as much as what we deliver.
- All In. All Together. You take ownership of outcomes, not just deliverables. You work closely with the team and step in where needed to support safe and successful execution.
- We Do What We Say. You make realistic commitments and stand behind your work. Quality, schedule, and technical integrity are non-negotiable.
- Be Better. You challenge assumptions, improve how we work, and look for smarter, more practical solutions. You help raise the bar for CGI engineering.
- Respect the Risk. You understand the consequences of failure in industrial environments. You apply sound engineering judgment, engage in field verification, and raise concerns early
Work Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- 8 hours per day

Please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your experience and interest in the role. Qualified candidates will be contacted for further discussion.
