Role:
The Manager of Environment, Health and Safety will oversee, support, and provide guidance on safety processes across the organization, collaborating with Plant HSE, Plant Managers, HR, and Director of HSE to ensure compliance with regulations and safeguard employee health. They will partner with operations and HR leaders to implement strategies aimed at enhancing safety protocols company-wide, minimizing recordable and lost time injuries. The role involves leading data collection, analysis, and reporting on safety incidents and performance, continuously improving these processes to achieve sustained injury reduction. Additionally, the manager will provide guidance to senior leadership and support Director of HSE and OH&S in other health, safety, and environmental initiatives. Responsibilities:
  • Develop, update, and communicate the health, safety and environment vision for the company, ensuring alignment with values.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor HSE Coordinators to drive safety improvements across locations.
  • Assist senior management in ensuring active safety processes at each site, holding leaders accountable, ensuring knowledge transfer across the company.
  • Develop, improve, and streamline health, safety and environment policies, programs, systems, and processes.
  • Track progress, identify shortcomings, and provide reporting updates to senior management.
  • Establish, maintain relationships, and collaborate with operations leaders and senior management to align safety efforts.
  • Maintain expertise in health and safety regulations and monitor changes.
  • Provide updates and clear direction on new regulations to senior management.
  • Review plans for new facilities/equipment to ensure safety compliance.
  • Assist in special requests from regulatory agencies and represent the company.
  • Respond to operations personnel on health and safety matters.
  • Review compliance procedures, regulatory reports, and training programs.
  • Conduct/manage safety and environmental compliance evaluations, reviews, and audits.
  • Develop and track corrective actions for safety improvements.
  • Lead an annual Safety & Compliance audit program and train internal auditors.
  • Provide recommendations for environmental strategies and business plans to senior leadership
  • Lead environmental impact assessments for utility projects.
  • Consolidate and analyze environmental data to drive HSE improvements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify key environmental risks and develop improvement programs, procedures, and training.
  • Manage escalated environmental issues and provide onsite emergency support.
  • Support environment client support, including incident investigations and investigations related to environmental matters.
Requirements:
  • B.Sc. degree, preferably within Science, Engineering or Occupational Health, and Safety, or Environmental Public Health with 5 to 10 years progressive experience.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting ISO or COR audits and root cause corrective action processes.
  • Experience adhering with compliance standards and environmental management activities is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current industry Occupational Health, and Safety, and Environment regulations, standards and best practices.
  • Project Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Facilitation, and Change Management skills.
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to influence others.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to prepare reports, interact with regulatory agencies, customers, conduct training, and collaborate effectively with team members across the country.
  • The job will collect and manage a large amount of data, so the candidate must be proactive and be highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, and possess excellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills:
  • Registration with a professional organization.
  • Working knowledge of Government institutions WCB, WSIB, BC MOE, MOE, etc.
  • Utility and manufacturing industry experience is preferred.
