Purpose of The Job

  • The Recreation Coordinator will support managing the daily operations of Let's Grow Hub that is Team Member, family and public facing.

  • Support Team Members with developmental, intellectual and / or physical disabilities in meaningful, enjoyable activities within the Let's Grow program and in recreational settings within the community.

  • Supervise relevant staff members, students, and volunteers at Let's Grow participating in recreation related tasks, training, and activities.

  • Promote and uphold dignity, autonomy and consent for all Team Members in all aspects of the role.

Accountabilities

1. Assist with Successful Operations of Programming at Let's Grow:

  • Support the onboarding of Team Members, Staff, Students and Volunteers.

  • Plan, implement, and enthusiastically deliver positive recreation programming, meeting the needs of all Team Members, implementing appropriate and enjoyable activities utilizing universal design.

  • Collaboratively plan monthly recreation schedules, one month in advance to be provided to all relevant staff.

  • Plan and organize fun, accessible and relevant community outings.

  • Implement individual programming based on each Team Member's interests, support needs and goals.

  • Facilitate community inclusion and participation, dependent upon individual needs, abilities and preferences.

  • Support Team Members to establish and maintain relationships based on their interests through access to community activities and services.

  • Assist with maintaining appropriate member records.

  • Work with Team Members, family members and other stakeholders in a collaborative and supportive manner.

  • Collaborate with Program Director, Care Team Supervisor and Care Team Staff to create seamless daily schedules that support the implementation of programming activities and personal care.

  • Provide coaching, feedback, and delegation in the moment to staff, students, and volunteers to manage and promote positive behaviors.

  • Receive coaching, feedback, and delegation with ease and implement in the moment.

  • Participate in the intake, development, training, and grading of placement students attending Let's Grow.

  • Partake in work events, including but not limited to staff meetings, family events, parent-staff touchbases, community events, and outings that may run outside of traditional work hours.

  • Maintain attendance and punctuality to ensure staff to Team Member ratio and the successful operations of Let's Grow.

  • Maintain organizational policy around paid and unpaid time off. 

  • Responsible for the creation, distribution, and collection of waiver forms for community outings, ensuring all documentation is accurately completed and submitted prior to designated deadlines.

2. Assist with Successful Operations of Personal Care at Let's Grow:

  • Provide supervision, direction, feedback, coaching and delegation to support staff as needed in collaboration with the organization's Care Team Supervisor.

  • Assist with direct care duties for Team Members. Including but not limited to: personal care in the bathroom, helping to feed lunch, assisting with physical and mobility requirements, including transfers, and the delegation of these tasks.

  • Carry out and promote positive routines/duties/activities in a cooperative, respectful and flexible manner, which are meaningful and enjoyable for each Team Member.

  • Listen and respond to Team Member needs within the Standard of Care and other organizational policies.

  • Maintain a safe and risk free environment during personal care in the bathroom by following organizational guidelines, insurance policies, and care plans.

  • Keep organized records regarding the health and wellbeing of our Team Members. Examples include: MARS, Seizure Records, Medication Administration Waivers, Intake forms, etc.

  • Partake in the administration and delegation of daily medication administration. 

3. Assist with Successful Operations of Risk Management at Let's Grow:

  • Monitor safe working conditions and follow organizations practices in all areas, reporting potential hazards, incidents, and concerns in a professional and timely manner.

  • Maintain current knowledge and understanding of organizational procedures and guidelines.

  • Collaborate in training and developing new staff, students, and volunteers on risk management and safety protocols.

  • Assist with upholding and developing organizational administration and policy requirements.

Job Requirements

1. Knowledge & Education

Completion of a post-secondary recognized diploma/degree program in one of the following disciplines: Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation and Leisure Services, Developmental Services, Child and Youth Care, Community Service Worker, Social Service Worker, or equivalent relevant experience.

2. Qualifications & Experience

  • Two years' experience developing and implementing adapted recreation-based programming in a group setting. 

  • Two years' experience working with adults with developmental, intellectual and / or physical disabilities. 

  • Full time (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm) availability. 

  • Experience managing, supervising, and / or providing leadership.

  • Valid CPR & First Aid C (lived experience responding to medical emergencies is an asset and will be prioritized). 

  • Valid cleared VSS. 

  • Experience doing Manual and Sling lifts is an asset .

  • Experience with J/G Tube Feeding is an asset.

  • Experience with Medical Record Keeping is an asset. 

  • Experience with Medication Administration is an asset. 

  • Knowledge/experience with Augmentative Communication Devices an asset. 

  • Knowledge of putting Disability Justice and an intersectional lens into practice is an asset.
