About us: Yavari Medical Inc. is a collaborative practice located in the Health Park Centre next to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, Nova Scotia. We are a privately owned practice of family physicians looking to expand our operations to meet the current/growing demand of health services in Sydney, Cape Breton.

We have a caseload of 4,000 patients in our clinic; in addition we provide medical services as below:

  • Taking care of inpatients at Sydney regional hospital;
  • We are one of 3 medical centres in Cape Breton managing patients suffering from mental health and addiction at the detox unit of the Sydney Regional Hospital;
  • Covering the entire Parkland assisted living with more than 100 residents;
  • Covering the Breton Ability Centre with more than a 100 residents, which is the second biggest centre in Nova Scotia;
  • We provide medical services at the Sydney Walk in clinic;
  • We are one of the approved centres for Health Canada immunization including yellow fever and travel medicine;
  • We are one of the enhanced physicians centre working with the Workers Compensation Board of Canada
  • We are running a clinic for addiction, alcoholism and substance abuse disorders
  • We provide medical services to Talbot House Centre for addiction recovery and rehabilitation of men across Nova Scotia and throughout Atlantic Canada;
  • We provide medical services to Cape Breton correctional facility and several nursing homes.

Lead Statement:

Our medicine practice has an immediate need for an organized, reliable Medical Office Administrative Assistant. You will be responsible for fulfilling administrative duties in both the front and back of the office, including billing support, scheduling, coding, patient communication and filing. We're looking for a team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You should demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to perform well in stressful situations. If you have experience in the medical field, you might be perfect for this position.

Duties:

  • Schedule and confirm medical appointments and receive and communicate messages for medical staff and patients
  • Assist patients with re-scheduling appointments and other scheduling issues
  • Enter and format electronically based medical reports and correspondence and prepare spreadsheets and documents for review
  • Interview patients in order to complete forms, documents and case histories
  • Complete insurance and other claim forms
  • Initiate and maintain confidential medical files and records
  • Prepare draft agendas for meetings and take, transcribe and distribute minutes
  • Prepare financial statements and billing
  • Establish and maintain various internal office administrative support procedures such as document tracking and filing and monthly reporting
  • Order medical supplies and maintain inventory
  • Work with the Medical Office Manager to determine and establish office procedures and routines

Requirements:

  • Completion of a one- or two-year college program or other specialized courses for secretaries or medical secretaries is required.
  • Minimum 2 years in a related role
  • Medical office experience a plus
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced environment an asset
