About the Role
The Compliance Coordinator is responsible for leading the facility's compliance programs across Security, Good Production Practices (GPP), and Health & Safety. This role ensures the facility meets all regulatory requirements under the Cannabis Act, OHS Act, site security plan, and internal SOPs. The position leads a small team, assists during audits, supports investigations, maintains documentation, and partners with cross-functional departments to ensure the site remains inspection-ready at all times.
Responsibilities
- Oversee compliance associates responsible for security monitoring, GPP checks, and H&S documentation management.
- Ensure all departments maintain adherence to SOPs, regulatory requirements, and facility compliance expectations.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts during regulatory inspections, audits, and internal compliance reviews.
- Lead or support H&S incident investigations, including root cause analysis and CAPA development.
- Manage WSIB reporting, modified work documentation, and follow-up requirements.
- Maintain training records, track certificate expiry dates, and support delivery of safety training/toolbox talks.
- Ensure equipment inspections, chemical handling practices, and PPE use comply with OHSA requirements.
- Maintain JHSC documentation and participate in meetings as required.
- Oversee adherence to the site security plan, access control procedures, and camera/infrastructure requirements.
- Coordinate corrective actions for security incidents or deviations.
- Ensure all logs, checklists, and regulatory records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
- Maintain compliance documentation including SOPs, SDS files, forms, and controlled documents.
- Assist with SOP development and revisions related to security, GPP, and H&S.
- Prepare compliance metrics, dashboards, and routine reports for leadership.
- Support monthly/quarterly facility inspections and follow-up actions.
Other
- Partner closely with Quality, Production, Facilities, and HR to ensure full-site compliance.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to compliance, safety, and facility standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- 3–5 years of experience in Health & Safety, compliance, security, cannabis, or regulated manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act, Cannabis Act regulations, and GPP requirements.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across departments.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Assets
- JHSC Part 2 certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience with WSIB reporting and modified work programs.
- Experience working in cannabis or other highly regulated industries.
- Post-secondary education in H&S, compliance, or related discipline.
