Job Description

VPM is seeking a
Small Business Account Manager – Payroll Solutions
to support and grow our small-business client portfolio while ensuring accurate, efficient, and compliant payroll services. This role blends client relationship management, hands-on payroll operations, and strategic business development. As the primary point of contact for your clients, you will understand their payroll needs, deliver a seamless service experience, and help them optimize their payroll processes using VPM's solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Client Management & Business Development


• Identify small-business prospects through research, networking, referrals, and market insights.


• Recommend tailored payroll plans and service packages based on each client's unique needs.


• Build, strengthen, and maintain long-term relationships with both new and existing clients.


• Set revenue growth goals for your portfolio and develop actionable plans to achieve them.


• Onboard new clients smoothly, ensuring they understand our solutions, timelines, and processes.

Payroll Operations & Compliance


• Oversee day-to-day payroll processing for assigned clients, including system setup, data entry, and verification of timesheets, request forms, and employee updates.


• Maintain confidentiality of employee and payroll information while ensuring accurate and timely updates to employee records.


• Collaborate with internal payroll and technical teams to collect, calculate, and enter payroll data.


• Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local payroll regulations.


• Manage payroll reconciliations, including WSIB, EHT, government remittances, and year-end requirements (T4, T4A, ROE).


• Prepare periodic payroll and financial reports for client and management review.

Continuous Improvement & Support


• Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of internal workflows, client processes, and service delivery.


• Provide expert guidance to clients on payroll best practices, system usage, and regulatory updates.


• Distribute income statements and support clients with payroll-related inquiries.

Skills and Qualifications


• Strong knowledge of payroll accounting, reconciliation, and government remittances.


• Experience processing both hourly and salaried payroll.


• Familiarity with T4s, T4As, ROEs, and year-end payroll activities.


• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to build trust and rapport quickly.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


• High numerical accuracy and strong attention to detail.


• Strong problem-solving abilities with leadership potential.


• Able to work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.


• Comfortable using payroll applications, CRM systems, and digital tools.


• Proficient with MS Office, especially Excel.


• Strategic mindset with the ability to identify revenue opportunities and onboard new clients effectively.
